  • Two Questions...

Hey everybody, still having problems with my radio so I need to ask two questions.

Does anybody know how hard it is to replace the display bulb? I heard its not really that difficult and I even found instrcutions online but I just want to know if anybody's done it.

And also, I read somewhere once that f-bodies (or maybe it was soley firebirds) made in early 98 may have had the monsoon sound system but the radio doesnt say monsoon on it, even though it is in fact the monsoon set up. Is there any way I can tell if I have the monsoon system? I see that my car was built in Feb of 98 so this is why I ask.

Thanks for your help everybody. Oh also, if it is the monsoon, what is the difference between that and just a stock stereo setup?

The difference between the regular stock stereo system and the Monsoon system on Firebirds is this:

    Monsoon System:
Indash CD-Player or Cassette Deck, 10-speakers (6-3/4" mid and separate tweeter located in each door, 6-3/4" dual voice coil subwoofer located on the sides where the rear passengers sit, 4" mids along with tweeters located wayy back in the hatch area.) and a factory Amp which is located next to where the spare tire is (the amp mounts on a plastic plate and tucks inside the rear fender area, you have to remove the spare tire to see it).

    Regular Stock System:
Indash CD-Player or Cassette Deck and 4 speakers. (Two 6-3/4" speakers up front, one in each door... and two 6-3/4" speakers in back where the rear passengers sit)

There's also anoter system called the "Entertainment System" which is exactly the same as the Monsoon (same layout, amp, speakers, etc.); however, it just doesn't say monsoon. Open your drivers door and look on the side of the door for the RPO codes (3-digit codes). See if you have any of these codes:

W54 -10-speaker Entertainment System, Cassette, w/ External Delco Amp
W55-10-speaker Entertainment System, CD-Player, w/ External Delco Amp
    U1T- Standard single CD-Player w/AM-FM stereo, w/HPS
    U1C- Standard single CD-Player w/AM-FM stereo.
    U1A- Single CD-Player w/ 10-speakers (no external amp)
    UU8- Cassette Player w/AM-FM Stereo, w/HPS
    UN6- Cassette player w/AM-FM Stereo
