CD player woes - Disk error?

    CD player woes - Disk error?

    I just bought a factory CD player for my '98, off a buddy with a '00 Malibu. It went in just fine, and the radio plays great.

    However, no matter what kind of CD I put in it, burned, retail, anything, it says "dsc err" and spits it back out at me.

    Does the unit need to be reset or something?

      A friend of mine's car has a thing where if you take it out of the car, and install it in another car it won't work, don't know if gm has that or not.
