Well I just got my new datalux 10.4" LCD with Touchscreen and VGA input via a standard pc D-Sub connector. It looks like its going to make a fine monitor for my new in car PC. I'm developing custom software to replace the windows shell with a more "finger friendly" interface with just some basic buttons for accomplishing common functions. Here are some screenshots to take a look at.
I should have pictures of the finished install by sunday.
i'm working on integrating a 3com audrey internet appliance into my car as well. you can flash out the doc and put in a new hard drive and turn it into a touchscreen 8 inch monitor that syncs with palm pilots and their accessories. that allows for gps and other fun capabilities. overall it should cost about $100

Well after a few massive hold-ups on this project, a lot of software development time, and a lot of wiring this project is all done. I'll have pictures up tomorrow night.
what if you added another obdII connection point behind the dash or somthing, so you could run autotap from that PC too. That way it'd still have the stock one incase it needed to go to the shop or any reason?

The auto tap cable is pretty long.. you can probably just hook it up when you need it.. I couldent imagine wireing up a split obdII system.. that would be a major pita.. creative though..
what about making the screen display RPMs and Speed. That'd be cool, especially for the passengers... if not just for braggin rights. And if that could be integrated then trip/milage counter would be easy.
OBD2 monitoring was always a planned part of this project however my wallet is thinning so I'll have to hold off on it for a little bit. Pictures are still coming I just need to borrow the neighbors digital camera, they've been on vacation so I'm outta luck as far as that goes for the moment.
Not much going on, replaced my Kenwood double din stereo with a Pioneer double din, the Kenwood had problems. Then replaced my power inverter for my reverse...
