  • 6 by 9 install in rear hatch speakers

    Wondering if I can replace my rear speakers in the trunk with some 6 by 9s. I think theyd be alot better then the ones I have. Thanks
    1996 Firebird-Y87:SLP Cold Air Intake,Y87 Perf. Package: 3.42 Gears w/ Zexel-Torsen LSD, Sport Steering(14.4:1 ratio), Dual Exit Exhaust,800 watt Pioneer Amp and Two 10\' subs with a custom trunk enclosure.

    You probably could but its not recommended. Those plastic panels back in the hatch are very thin and would rattle and buzzzzz like crazy. Others on this forum have mentioned you can install 6x9's on the sides where the rear passengers sit. I'd go that route before I'd mount them on those wimpy panels way in the back.

          I did acoustics 6x9's in the back,And I have subs and theres no rattling at all!!As long as you do a clean job at cuting the old pastic mounting brackets.You will notice a better sound quility with 6x9's then the stock POS one's! [img]smile.gif[/img]

              Stock where the passengers sit beside there head. Arent those things empty? I popped a cover off one day and there was like white double sided tape in there. Are they there for looks or what?

                No, there should be speakers in there behind the grilles.

                  Hello, I have just put some Sony XPLODES in my rear hatch, I had to cut away the plastic in which the old ones were in but i screwed the 6X9s in with the screws they supplied and they sound awesome,,,,,,Only problem is the covers for the speakers are raised a little bit and I think I am going to have to cut a little away because my hydrolic pistons for the back hatch are hitting them when it closes, Good luck,,,Zippy
