So last night I was reading my (aftermarket) keyless entry manual and I was going to do it today. Its a do it yourself (or so it says) kit from DEI. Do i have to run a lot more wire than the kit has because I thought it was all behind the kick panel, glove box and steering column.
There are about 10 steps... and I am going to go through each one of them.
1- Ground (easy enough)
2- Constant power and ignition (easy enough also)
3- parking light flash (question- do we have the standard negative-triggered parking light circuit because if we do then I can do this too) Their website tells me nothing and I had entered a coupon code for 48 hours access and i cant get it to work today LOL
4- Door locks- CONFUSION HERE! This is where i just stopped. lol I read about something called RAP for our cars. I think we have what is called Type A in the manual... Three wire + pulse controlling factory door lock relay. Most GM, some Ford and chrysler, 1995 saturn and some new VW and BMW. Ok so there is a thing on RAP here in the book but i dont understand it. lol This is starting to piss me off cause I went to the site last night and put in my vehicle info and well, it didnt even come up... the site wouldnt do anything after i hit submit. Site still wont work. This sucks.
5- disarm the factory alarm system. I dont have a factory alarm (that i know of) so i guess I can skip this
6- Trunk/hatch release. I didnt buy this relay cause I rarely use the trunk... but maybe someday.
7- Loop programming. it says- Dependant of the door lock type, use the following data with the instructions to program the eystem for your door lock type. The wire loops listed below are found at theside of the control modular case. I will understand what to cut or not to cut when i understand my damn locks. Oh and i wanted to know if i had to cut either one of the other of each color wire below. I am guessing yes.
Door lock Duration- (White wire)
Uncut- 0.8 seconds
Cut- 3.5 seconds
Door unlock Pulse setting (green wire)
Uncut- single pulse
Cut- double pulse
Ignotion controlled door locks (red wire)
Uncut- on
Cut- off
Step 8- Program transmitter. (easy)
step 9- Test the system...
Sorry for the crapload of questions but i cant figure out the power locks part and thats what i want this sytem to do (unlock the damn doors).
Oh i have been to the bfranker site where there is a big write up on a car alarm install. Any other sites would be helpful. Been reading all morning. Gotta go take a 20 mile bike ride. weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!
