I have heard a JL stealth with a 10W0 in it and it was VERY nice indeed. Sounded like a pair of 10s. Real good bump. Also, you might wanna check out www.subthump.com Great quality stealth boxes at a great price.

i've got the JL stealthbox & a JL 10W3, powered by a JL 250/1 amp. i have the volume on the amp set at #6 of 10, and it's frickin' loud like a mofo. it's way plently loud for me at #6, and the quality is also very good. the rest of my sound system is stock.

here's a pic of the stealthbox installed if you're curious:

i >>think<< the mtx version is just a black plastic molded box...IMO that would look crappy. carpet looks a lot betta!

definitly worth the money btw. i tore out my interior (including sub/amp) last week for racing & the stock stereo sounds like sh!t. definitly one of those 'must do' things IMO

I've got the JL 10" and stealthbox and it pounds plenty hard enough for me! I'm not sayin I gotta worry about poppin a back window, but I still have the use of my whole trunk to.

I just ordered a Thunderform. What kind of 10" subwoofer would sound best with this kind of box? I'm clueless about subs so maybe someone can recommend something around $100?

You shoulda got the stealt off me, but oh well. I think you can pick up an Alpine type R 10 for like 105. Type S is less. Or maybe a JL 10w3 but I'm not sure what those are going for right now.

I heard those JL's are sweet but they're a little to expensive for me. After getting all my stereo stuff jacked in front of my home, I can only muster enough enthusiasm to build the best el-cheapo system I can find :(

I'll see if I can find a lowball deal on some Type-S's or just go wit the mtx thunder4000's

If your gonna go with MTX subs then atleast get the Thunder6000s. You should be able to find them online for under $100.

yeh i priced out a new jl box & 10w3...$899 CAD...retarded. $299 CAD just for the box. here the mtx with thunder6000 was $499 CAD, the mtx box isn't available separatly. (not local anyway) those priced are plus our 15% tax.

but i looked around and got the jl box with 10w3 for $320 cash--used. maybe hot, maybe not, i don't care, it sounds sweet

Yes it is plastic however it has a cover for it, looks very good imho. (I have pictures of it on my cardomain site in sig) I have one (with an mtx 6000 sub) and absolutely love it. I havn't heard the jl but I hear it sounds better and honestly I don't doubt it for a second. But if you want a good sounding system (my sub is crystal clear even at very high volume) for a decent price and want to keep the trunk mtx is a very good choice. However if you're rich, get the jl hands down :D

I didnt like the plastic look either of the MTX box and I wasnt too fond of the cover so I covered mine in carpet. I think it looks pretty good. I have some (crappy) pics on my sounddomain site in my sig.

i dont know how crafty or motivated you are, but my buddy custom built a box for his 1997 firebird...he has a 10inch jl audio sub and it sounds really good..he has a custom amp rack and all that stuff to..he did everything himslef so it was very cheap too. looks great too.
