  • Monsoon system ??

Uhm, i searched and i didn't find anything so...

i'm looking to getting my system replaced. My front speakers are pretty much blown and i'm getting tired of fading to the back ones. So I want to buy a Monsoon system. Mainly b/c I want my cars interior stock and so i can keep the place to put my t-tops. I was wonder first of all, is it even worth it ( with or without the labor costs ), second how much do you guys think it'll cost ( i saw a compleate system on ebay for about 51.00 at 5 days left, i'm assuming ...300-400? ) , and last could i do it myself. I pretty much know all of nothing about car electronics. So any advice would be appreciated :D

    thx

Don't bother trying to put a Monsoon system in a car without it. It's not worth the effort for what you get.

My dad has a Firebird with Monsoon, and I have a Camaro with the stock 4 speaker system. His can be louder, but I replaced my stock speakers with Infinity Reference 6.5s and it sounds clearer than his in my opinion. That's with the stock HU too. It would probably be even better with more power.

you don't need to sacrifice your t-top storage at the expense of subwoofers. There are plenty of ways to have your cake and it eat it too.

There's plenty of expertise around here to help you select affordable equipment and get it installed correctly. The only challenging part is often getting a power wire through the firewall into the cab.

What...there is a hole made for sending wires through the firewall.

I would recommend replacing all the speakers, HU, and you can even add a SW in a specially made box that fits right behind the drivers side fender so it doesn't affect t-top storage. The amps are fairly easy to conceal as well...my first one went under my passenger seat and was completely invisible. I had the monsoon system and put upgraded speakers in but still blew them in a few months.

so... would it be worth it? I'm pretty confident that i might be able to do it myself, how much would this run me if i just bought the parts and took a weekend off to do it?

Yeah, technically you could install a monsoon system but it won't be easy. It's really not even worth it. Not only would you need the monsoon amp and speakers, you'd also need all of the factory wiring and plugs. What sucks about the factory wiring is that it just doesn't pull right out, its all wrapped in black tape and flex loom, which is all intertwined with every other wire in the car. Talk about spaghetti...

If money is an issue, I would recommend that you replace the door speakers with some decent coaxial 6-1/2's for now. They will sound a lot better than your factory ones.
