Hi everyone I need some help trying to connect my ipod, Im tired of using my fm transmiter because it sounds like crap, now i know that there are ways to hook it up via aux inputs and cd changer inputs but being the audio beginner that i am im not quite sure that my HU has those things. my HU is a JVC Kameleon, i cant find any pics JUST like it online it looks like the lx-111 without the cd changed controls i dont know what model it is. I do know that I got it about a year ago for ~120 anyhow Im looking for the cheapest way I can rig my ipod in the car without that fm crap. thanks

Crutchfield.com sells THIS adapter plug for JVC headunits. It only works on JVC headunits that have cd-changer controls. You'll know if your JVC headunit has changer controls if it has a DIN plug (circular plug with multiple pins inside) on the back.

if you have no auxillary RCA inputs and no DIN input, then you're pretty much out of luck. You might consider buying a higher quality FM transmitter or another head unit. A quality FM transmitter that runs on 12V DC should go for $50 - $125. Your new transmitter should absolutely have phase-lock loop (PLL) circuitry or it's going to be a static-y POS.

After i finish saving for my rims I am getting an Alpine CDA-9833 Head Unit which is going to cost me around $300.00. The reason I am getting this head unit (and posting in this thread lol) is because this fall Alpine is releasing the Alpine Ipod KCA-420i which is a little box that works with any 2004 Alpine head unit and let's you plug the Ipod in via the port on the bottom of the Ipod. The best part about this little adapter is that the Ipod is fully controllable on the Aline Head unit and the head unit even displays the songs and artists and any other info. Type in KCA-420i on google and I'm sure you will see what I am talking about. Also you do not need to get the same head unit I am getting. There are cheaper ones out there that still are going to work with this new adapter. Hope this helps...

I have the Griffin iTrip FM transmitter ($30) and I'm pretty happy with it. I do get some static, especially in the mornings for some reason, but overall it's really not bad. I much prefer it to having to deal with wires all the time. It also receives power from the iPod, so there is no power plug and it will work on ANY FM frequency (you program it - very easily), so if you live in a big city like me where there aren't many empty stations, it's a great buy. Good luck.

Aiwa CDX-304. Cost me about $110, has a front aux input, and has amp/sub outs, etc. Best Buy had it on sale with free installation, so I jumped.

The difference between the 304 and 444 is that one has a remote (the 444) and the other doesn't. Otherwise, they're the same. The 204 has less power than the 304.

Here's a pic of it in my car:

Fair Warning: If you use a car charger, you might need a ground loop isolator - I have a problem where without one I get some popping noises when the charger is plugged in to either of the power outlets in the car. This is probably from poor GM ground isolation. Ground loop isolators can be bought at radio shack fairly cheaply.

Try grounding the headunit directly to chassis.

As close as possible. If you remove the driver's side kick panel, you'll see a bolt right near the door jam area. That's where mine is grounded. Be sure to sand er' down good. Now, I'm sure there are several other places that are closer then this one. If I had the time when I was doing this, I would have looked somewhere else. But this place was easy to get to and has work flawlessly for several years....so why complain?
