    Battery almost dead after HU install?????????

    Alright... so today I was installing my new alpine 9855 and it had the doors open for most of the day and just now i had it on for about an hour while installing my new seatcovers... I cant get any sound from the subs at all. WTF. What happened with that was one day I drove to work and everything was fine... then i went out for lunch to listen to my radio and my subs were out. If anyone knows whats up with that lemme know, but right now i am wondering maybe i connected the wrong wires or something and killed my battery (even though they are color coded and i have installed about 4 HU before with no problems).

    I hope my alternator isnt dying or whatever. I have an Energizer battery i got from Pep Boys last year. lol BTW i am charging my battery right now and i jump started it and then turned it off and on and it worked but it was just above yellow on the gauge. thanks.

    did the subs work after the car ws jumped?
    Did the subs work after you finished the hu install?
    are all the fuses involved still good?

      No the subs didnt work after the car was jumped... the subs just wont work and its pissing me off. I replaced the RCAs and remote wire (do i need an inline fuse?)... I dont know what other fuses to check. I guess the ones on the amp but the light on the amp was on.

      I posted this in general tech cause i already posted in stereo/electronics. *trying to get all the answers i can*

        is the light on the amp on or does it go into protect?

        there SHOULD be an inline fuse on the wire that goes to the amp.

        Go to where the amp is mounted and check if the remote wire is getting power, do this with a 12V tester...

          There is a fuse on the 4 gauge wire that goes into the amp... i mean is there supposed to be one on the remote wire.

          The amp light comes on and off if i turn the car on and off. I havent got a damn clue why my subs still wont work... so i took off the remote wire so it doesnt come on and i guess i should go out there and just take off the negative to be sure. I will suffer with no bass. :(

            If you can get a cheap multimeter to borrow, measure the voltage of the remote wire at the amp with the HU off and on.

            When it's off, you should see 0. When it's on, you should see 12-14 constantly. Sometimes the crimping on those tiny remote wires doesn't happen quite right.

            The other thing I have seen is that the quality of the RCA connections at the HU and AMP is often kinda flimsy [the female connectors].

              also, you can use the same meter to measure your battery voltage. 12-12.5 when off, 13.5-14.5 when on would be ok at idle. If the voltage doesn't come up significantly after starting the car, I'd suspect the alternator.

                Maybe check the grounds too? I had a similar problem with my sub and it turned out my ground wire came loose and the connection was arcing. My battery had been going dead alot since i had my capacitor installed, seems to be alot better since I got a high output alternator...

                  Since i got the battery charged it has been fine. My levels when on are about 14 or so. I am going to try to work on these subs at lunch. maybe take em out of the box. LOL
