Okay, I've read through the results of my search for info on installing tweeters. However, just to make sure...

I had to replace the front door speakers in my Monsoon-equipped '99 Camaro. I hooked a pair of 6 1/2 speakers into the stock location- which left me with an extra pair of leads for the tweeter. From what I read, the tweeters are the only non-amped speakers in the system.

So, my question is this. I have purchased a pair of Kicker R13 tweeters. They came with cross-overs. Do I just hook them straight up to the extra leads left from the front door? Do I need to attach the crossovers? From what I've read, it seems the answer is yes to the first and no to the second, right?

Thanks for any info. Pardon the mundane, simplistic nature of my questions...

you should be able to just hook them up to those leads (use a crossover).

yes those leads will power it, but use the crossover to filter all the other noise. You'll tweets will last longer if you dont give them the frequencies they cant handle.

First, understand that I don't know a whole lot about audio systems...

That said, I decided to install my Kicker R13 tweeters recessed at the top of the front windshield post (right up near where the front of the T-top inserts). My first impression (after hooking up just one and putting my ear to it) was "These won't make much difference, they're not very loud."

Nevertheless, I ripped off all the necessary panels, drilled, grinded, and swore my way through the installation and WOW! That little bit of high end sound really, really rounds out the sound! I can now crank up the bass from the back without feeling like I've lost the entire range of the sound.

I couldn't be more impressed over how the addition of just a little bit of sound can change the audio "picture" painted by the system. I even had to swivel the tweeters slightly away from my ear to keep them from overpowering the mids (they ARE only about 12" from the ear where I have them mounted). They look pretty cool, too.

Sorry, I'm just in that "post did-it-myself" moment of euphoria (that, and my Metallica "Black" album never sounded so good ;^).
