  • Dual voice coil

Okay i don't know any of the proper words for the parts on a stereo system so please bear with me. Well i got a MTX 10 in the cubby of my trunk powered by a Power acustics amp or something like that. It runs 400x2 at peak or 350x1 bridged RMS...anyways i blew the hell out of the MTX the other day and i replaced it with a Crossfire sub. The problem is that the Crossfire is dual voice coil, and since the MTX is only a single voice coil the box is only wired for the single voice coil. I went ahead and put in the Crossfire and i am running it on one voice coil right now, it is good but the MTX was better, and i assume that is because i am only running on one of the two voice coils. So my question is what do i do so that it can run on both coils, or am i going to have to take it somewhere and have somebody else do it?

Your going to follow the diagram that says

1 DVC driver with Voice Coils in Parallel

Hopefully your amp doesnt go into protect, if it does then its not stable at 2 ohms. If its not stable at 2 ohms then you will have to wire it at 8 ohms which will suck.

Also its not a good idea to run only one voice coil. You can damage your sub very easily if your not careful. Also using only one voice coil only allows for half the output of the subwoofer.
