I have a 99 camaro, with a monsoon system in it, my front speakers are almost totally shoot, dont know why, never played much loud music. I went to best buy the other day and asked about replacing them, they told me i would have to replace the complete stereo system because it was a monsoon, and if we only replaced the speakers that they out cut in and out because the amp would not reconinize them, is this BS, was he jest trying to make a sale? I sure dont want to replace every thing, cause i really like the factory stereo, and i also really dont wanna go to the dealer and get the same sorry speakers that did not last the first time. What do you guys think?...thanks

The guy is telling the truth you will have problems with the speakers because of the Monsoon amp. If you want to keep the monsoon headunit then get the factory speakers from someone who has taken them out. If you have an aftermarket headunit then just do all new speakers. The reason is the monsoon amp uses different ohms for the speakers. Don't know what the front ones are but I do believe that they are written on the back of the speakers if you take them out and look.

The Monsoon unit uses 2 ohm speakers in front, while almost all aftermarket speakers are 4 ohms. I installed some Pioneer 220watt 4 ohm speakers and the sound was crappy. I found a pair of Monsoon speakers from a 01 Camaro on ebay and I bought the pair for 80 bucks. About 20 less than I paid for the Pioneers. This way I can have the good original sound I actually like. Hopefuly these wont blow on me soon. Look around on Ebay for some pretty good deals.
