  • Stereo questions on a 2000 Camaro

O.k - first of all let me say - these forums are great - I've been reading and just learning before registering and starting to post. This is the first Camaro I've owned and I have to admit I'm in LOVE! Got a few questions for those who have done their stereo installs already -

    1. Has anyone done a double DIN install in a 2000 (or similar year) - I'm looking to add an LCD (in a DIN mount) display to mine, but I already own a CDA-7878 Alpine and don't want to sell it. If you have done the Double DIN can we see some pics or a post on how to do it?

    2. Has anyone done a tweeter install on the mirrors with an angled setup? I was curious as to how that would sound.

    3. I had underbody neon installed on my car about 2 weeks ago and wondered how that MAY affect the alternator - EVERYTIME I turn on the neon the ABS INOP light comes on. The transformer for the neon (streetwires gold series) is mounted driver side, close to the fuse BOX in the engine compartment (i can post pic if need be) - so is the alternator too low or maybe the battery low (with all my stereo equip being 1 Alpine v12 amp, 2 soundstream apms, 2 phoenix gold amps, a crossover, 2 1 farad caps) - because I've read low voltage will get that light to come on - or maybe the transformer is interfering with the ABS sensor box? I've tried wrapping the transformer in alum foil - no help.

Anyway - thanks for all the help - I'll look forward to hearing your suggestions - and once it's all done (stereo install) - I'll try and get some pics up for you all. Thanks for everything!

yes people have done the double din install, I just cant remember who. I remember seeing a guy with a cd and an eq mounted in his dash. as for the mirrors, yes thats been done too. in fact I know a guy that sells the mounts for the install, I looked into buying them. and the other part I have no clue about, but you might have some luck over at www.fbodyaudio.com
the guy that makes the mounts is Kevin, he's over there too.

An underbody neon kit should not put any stress on the alternator. They are low amperage systems. Check the fuse that came with the kit. It's probably ony a 1 or 2 amp fuse. Unless they are different now which I doubt.

What is your power wire hooked to anyway? Sounds like you may have it tapped in a bad place. I had a kit one time and spliced into the parking lights. That way I knew I couldn't leave them on and run the battery down (due to that annyoing chime reminder). HTH

        Thanks for the help guys!

Well, the fuse on it is REALLY small - glass style, in line - very thin wire (just remembering, don't have time to go pull right now)- the guy who installed the kit tapped the power from the fuse on the driver side inside the car on the window wipers or washer fuse - so I should maybe try tapping the battery instead huh? He said he did it that way so that if I left them on, it wouldn't run down the battery because the ignition is required to give the lights their power.

Hope this gives a bit more insight - also, when running at night with neon under lights, full stereo and headlights, the charge meter on the dash shows around normal...maybe a little less. Lights only dim currently when subs hit hard, 2 1 farad caps going in tomorrow to fix that.

Thanks for the links - hadn't been to fbodyaudio before - found some good stuff there! If anyone can come up with pics or a FAQ on double DIN installs on a 2000 Camaro - I'm all ears! This LCD business is proving a bit tougher than anticipated - they didn't leave much room on the dash at all. Thanks once again!
