alright, here's the story. about a year ago i bought 2 12" kenwood tornados, and got a warranty for them. well i blew one of them the other day, took it back to where i got it, and they no longer carried that model so they gave me a new one. the problem is that one sub is a 4 ohm single voice coil, and the other is a 4 ohm + 4 ohm dual voice coil..... i've got a kicker 1302 or something like that, it's a 2 channel amp (4 ohms stereo, 2 ohms bridged)... is there any way to wire this without blowing something up? or is it time to go buy another 4+4ohm sub?

My advice would be to bite the bullet and get the other new sub to match. It will be easier to wire them up and will sound better. Mixing two different subs won't sound very good.

figured it'd come to that. is there any way to use the single voice coil 4 ohm sub for home audio? i know i could hook it up to a reciever... but i'm fairly sure the recievers i have are 8ohm. is there any kinda amp i could attatched to the sub to make it like most home audio subs (powered)? I think this'd be a cool idea if i could figure out some way to do it, i've already got box plans for it and think it'd be fun to do. what do you guys think?

I've thought about the same thing. I've got a pair of subs at my house that I took out of my car and I wanted to put em to use. I'd like to know the same thing.

I don't have any specific names for you, but I think many of the high-end stand alone amps are capable of powering a 4ohm load. Just keep in mind that the sub won't play anything like it does inside the car, and you are dealing with much larger space to fill. But if you build a proper sized box for it, and give it enough power, I don't know why it wouldn't work. Or you could always try to find a large AC to DC power supply and use a 12V(car) amp to power the sub. Just have to make sure the power suppley can produce the needed power when for the large base notes.

I've been lookin on ebay and found a couple home audio subwoofer amps. i'm guessing this are what we need to use, they seem pretty self explainitory. now it's just a matter of building the box and ordering the amp. just curious, any of you ever tried doing this before?

the ac to dc idea sounds cool since i'm going to college next year and i don't want to have my system in my car while i'm there, so basically i might try using my subs/amp in my dorm (this is gonna take up a lot of valuable space... but too bad :D ). so i've been lookin for converters on ebay. would this one be powerful enough for a 1000 watt amp? http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...tem=1392921330 if it's not, do you think you could give me an idea of what would be big enough? it's totally up to you, if you don't have time or just don't want to, i understand.

The description says it's 2.5 amp. Might work for powering a HU or something, but not an amp. Correct me if I'm wrong, but you'd need a much higher output converter to power a 1,000 watt amplifier. And those get pretty $$. You'd be ahead to get a regular home stereo amp and an 8ohm sub IMO.
