I am going to be running a jbl 1200.1 to my sub(s). 2 12'' kicker comp vr's in a sealed box or 1 12'' L7 in a ported box. I am going for spl here so I need some help. The guy at pro audio told me that would be close so, now i am asking you guys. Either way I will have dynamat in the trunk. Thanks guys.

I think I would go with the ported L7. Although, I have found that the L7's need rather large size boxes to maintain good SQ. Nothing extra big or anything though. Probably the size of your 2 12s" sealed. Another thing to think about is if you are using the 1200.1, that's 600 watts to each VR or 1200 all to one L7. Get what I'm saying? But watch it!!! Using that much power on one woofer in a ported design can be deadly..... for the woofer I mean. The 1200.1 has no subsonic filter. Just tune real low and watch what music you play.

If I were you I would go 1 ported L7. I'm kinda in the same boat, I have 1 Lanzar 12 and I'm still working on the box to get the best DB and daily ground pounder. There is some guy down here that has 1 L7 with a buttload of power in a camaro that hits a 147.8 I'm working on getting there, but still have a long ways to go I'm pulling a consistant 139.8. I got the power, just need to work on the box. Back to the topic, ported is ALWAYS better for SPL. Sealed is good for a daily ground pounder and sounds just as loud, but they don't pull good numbers on the meter.

I agree with most of this, but wanted to add that sealed boxes can be loud too if done correctly. I have a box (2.0 cubes sealed)hitting 147dbs with two Alpine 12s with only 380 watts each.

And I'm anxious to see how this bad boy sounds when it's finished and metered

BTW, that's two Brahmas sealed and 2400 watts RMS The third amp (sub amp) is consealed inside the amp rack

You mean another amp in the same power/price range as the JBL? Cadence A7HC or the Z7000. A tad more $$$$ then the JBL but has all the bells and whistles
