  • Need opinions on what amplifier(s) to get.

Well my old amplifier is toast. I had a Sony 4 channel amp (40 watts x 4 at 4ohm) that is just out of warrantee and I'm deciding what to get now (more information on my stereo system in my website in sig). What do you guys think of this?

    - Sony XM-475GSX $250. Click here for a picture of how my amp is currently wired. Is it correct to assume that I would simply be able to use all the current wiring on my new amp, exactly as before? That would be great so I wouldn't need to pay for installation.
*75 watts for each sub and rear speaker.

Thanks guys with any opinions or information you can provide. Please make suggestions if you have a better idea for a different amp or amp combination, I would like to keep it $300 or less though.

you have one serious problem with the setup, it involves sony=crap, even their high end stuff.
A rockford fosgate amp would even be better.
For a descent amp try MTX
as for a HU, dont get sony, they skip, I know.

v6maro is right. Sorry. Sony just isin't very good. One thing, their higher end stuff (ES line) is pretty good, just overpriced. Speaking of overpriced.... so is Rockford. I own Rockford gear.... but I must say, you can get just as good of equipment for less $$$$. Your just paying for the name. Cadence makes some great gear for cheap. I'd check em' out.... www.cadencesound.com

Yeah dude, stay away from Sony. Luckily, I have your problem solved. You can pick up a JBL 80.4 for $128 shipped from www.ikesound.com 80 watts by 4 channels. I've got one and it works good. Nice and small, doesn't get to warm, and puts out rated poewr.

Your current wiring should work, except if you go from the previous 40x4, to a 75 or 80 x 4, you are going to need a bigger fuse, and you will most likely need to replace the power and ground wires to a bigger gauge wire. You might could get by on 8awg, but 4 would be best.

Werd of advise. Never EVER buy anything that says Sony or Boss or any other sh!t like that. Do not buy anything in the flea markets except for Audiobahn Amps and sometimes subs. Anywayz to get back on the point of amps you should go out and spend 300$ on a 400RMS mono v-12 Alpine.

Nevermind. I thought you had some good subs. My bad. Um another word of advise. Get rid of those sh!ty MTX's ! Go buy a whole ALPINE system !
My system cost $1400$ but i you are on a budget too bad.

I too would recommend an mtx amp, I have a 4 channel MTX 204 thunder amp and a 2 channel MTX 102 thunder amp and I think it sounds great.

Thanks guys for the responses. I'm taking your advice and staying away from Sony. I went to Circuit City today to take a look at what they have and the salesman recommended 2 amps, or if I just wanted a replacement he recommended an MTX 4-channel amp with 100 watts x 4 at 2 ohm for $279 (I forgot to write down what product # it was). The best part is it has a 3 year warrantee so I don't have to worry about it replacing it anytime soon.

96firebird311: does Cadence list their prices anywhere on their web site? I couldn't find them.

ChameleonGreen: The web site doesn't work for me, I tried 2 different browsers and 2 computers, it just loads a blank black background.

naptown: I have spent $1,200 on my system so far and after this new amp I will have spent about $1,500. And, what is wrong with MTX subs? From what I've heard they are supposed to be good. Also, isn't it more important to spend money on the amp, not expensive subs?

Both are important. But... it's all in the installation. That's where you spend the money. You can do it yourself, just make sure you know what you are doing.
