Yeah, the audio shops are the best also. Avoid best buy and circuit city and the like. The little shops will usually deal with you and some of them are really cool as described above.

Yes, I found this guy that owns and installs at his shop, and he was cool! He gave me suggestions, answered my questions, and let me listen to more than one sub in my car. I like a guy that helps out someone. He even gave me quotes on things I considered... some shops look at me like I'm wasting their time, but they're wasting my time. There's this shop that sells Cerwin Vega, and I wanted a Vega 12 a long time ago. He was trying to make me feel like I knew nothing. Even these other guys that sell Soundstream and ESX, they were impatient years back when I was getting started with car audio. I may have had lots of questions in the beginning, but that's when you need answers and opinions the most!
Sorry if I came off hard on audio salesmen, but I've been to a few stores that have salespeople that seem as if they don't want to sell at all... and were quick to make me feel like a little kid.

i like places that dont BS you on systems, i got most of my work done locally at a shop called Custom Sound Works (owned by Mike Jones)
im running 2 10" subs and about to throw some 8" Midbass drivers in the rear in place of my 6.5s just to get rid of that spot where my 10s cant hit and my 6.5s distort too bad
running out of room thanks to my ungodly large kenwood amp though R.I.P \'99 Firebird, you will be missed
New toy - 2001 GSXR-750, Yoshimura Exhaust, Power Commander, Rebuilt Airbox

Yes, this is best.

Where do I get these? Are the kicker 6.5s good? They are the only ones that I've heard of.

Use the same mid-base drivers that you use in your front stage.

quote:
Originally posted by BigED:
Also, do I need to buy a crossover or something? How can I use the rear channels of my amp to driver the midbass right?

You will need a x-over.
The easiest way to do it, is to buy a 4 identical component sets and don't install the tweeter on the 2 you put in the rear.
Or, the best way, say if you bought kicker components for the front. Contact kicker or a kicker dealer and see if you can get a couple replacement drivers (Identical to the ones in the front component system).
I recommend hooking this all up to a x-over. Like an Audio Control 3xs or 2xs. Set the front components on "high pass" for 80Hz and rear midbass drivers should be bandpassed from 75 to 220Hz. If/when you get a sub, set it to "low pass" at 80Hz.

Also, will this sound better than components or coaxials in the back? A guy at a speaker shop told me to get coazials for the back if I get components in the front.

Don't put coaxials in the back.

It will take some modifications to make it fit, but it shouldnt be too much work, now i dont even know if i will have the car long enough to do it :(R.I.P \'99 Firebird, you will be missed
New toy - 2001 GSXR-750, Yoshimura Exhaust, Power Commander, Rebuilt Airbox

I sure hate hearing about those idiots out there working at Best Buy or Circut City that don't give a damn about you as a buying customer. I get livid when I see customers coming into our store telling us how they were ripped off or how their cars were cut up. These guys will tell you ANYTHING just to make a sale! We have loyal customers that come back everytime and bring their friends and family too. When you walk into my store you become family whether you spend a dime or not. We have always taken the time to literally go outside and look at your car, talk to you and figure out a game plan. Another note, stay away from Flea Markets. All that stuff is Black Market and you won't get warranty and the crap is usually REFURBED! I've seem it all... \'97 Red Camaro V6 3.8
I love my bottle baby! I dont know how it is at best buy but I used to work for circuit city and all they care about is selling something. To them it's not what is good quality it is what pays them the most. The higher the price doesnt always mean the best quality. A lot of the time they will push one thing just because it pays them more then everything else. That and their warrenty is a ripoff. Thats all the managers really want to sell because it is almost all profit. Just a rant because i saw everyone else bashing shady city

Hey 94CaliCamaro, The 8's will not fit in the backseat passenger locations. I have 8's in mine and you have to cut some metal. Its not hard or a lot to cut. A good metal bit and a jig saw should do the trick. I also foam filled a lot of the well inside the location as well as dynamatted.
