  • Here is a really dumb, easy question for you guys...*Urgent*

Circuit City is selling a Jensen sub/enclosure systen. It comes with 2 12's in a bandpass box for $150. I am a huge bass head and every once in a while I just want to pound around town and my sealed enclosure cant't really do it like I want it to. So I was thinking about buying this loaded enclosure, swapping out the Jensen subs in it for my kickers, and then selling my current box with the Jensen subs with the box to a friend for around $70-ish. Only thing is, I know nothing about bandbass enclosures. And you guys are going to laugh, but looking at the picture of the enclosure, it looks like it would be difficult to get the subs out. Is it actually possible to get subs in/out of a bandpass enclosure? How?

Also, I know these boxes are typically huge so i'm going to measure to make sure it will actually fit before I get it.

Are your current subs Comps? While a box can make a difference, I think your subs just won't pound any harder, whatever the box may be.

You sure? A buddy of mine has 2 Verge 10's powered by a $100 Lighting Audio wal-mart amp and you could hear his from a distance before you could hear mine and i'm convinced it's because he has a vented enclosure.

Btw, yes they are c12's but I do plan on upgrading eventually, I see this as the first step. I was thinking about maybe going with CompVR's.

If you plan on upgrading, I would just save your money and build your own box. You're pretty much paying $80 for the box, which you could spend on building your own ported box. I'd still say don't do it, and save your money for future upgrades.

also... a bandpass box is not designed for a car.. they are designed for SUV's with alot of airspace to take up.

Make sure that with that box you can even take the plexi off because theres a similar combo at bby that the plexi is riveted on.

          subs can make a difference.

** dont do bandpass though, seriously just build a sealed box yourself or go buy one and use the subs you have.

With a bandpass design you cannot simply swap out one subwoofer for another. Here's a great read for you from JL Audio. Take note of the very end.
              " "Universal" Bandpass Designs
The term "universal bandpass" itself is really an oxymoron (like "fresh-frozen", "jumbo-shrimp", "one size fits all", etc.) in that there truly is no one design that will work with all drivers! To imply that such a design is feasible is to totally ignore the very nature of bandpass enclosures: they are extremely driver sensitive and enclosure sensitive! If you have read all of this tutorial up until this point, it shouldn't take much persuasion to lead you to believe that "yes, bandpass designs are picky and easy to mess up". Not all 10" drivers are alike...not all 10" drivers from one manufacturer are alike, so why should they use the exact same box?"
