  • Best bang for my buck

I am starting to look for a video headunit for my camaro. I am looking to spend $300 to $600. So i was checking ebay and came up with few:

    1. Pioneer

    2. Alpine (btw, i love alpines)

    3. Sanyo

    4. Clarion

    5. Kenwood Btw, what the heck is double din, 1 1/2 din, single din???? can i use double din in my car?

    6. Panasonic
Give my some of your thoughts, experiences on what headunit is better...

Some nice units in there. I guess the best value is going to be the one that fits has the features that you need. For example, if you plan on using more than one amplifier, either now or in the future, then the Alpine unit isn't for you since it only has 1 set of RCA outputs. Very limited expandability. Buying the wrong equipment for your needs is never a good value, no matter how good of a buy it is.

As far as DIN sizes. DIN stands for Deutsche Industie Normen or German Industry Standard. Basically a single DIN head unit measures approx 2" x 7 1/4", most head units are of this size. Then there is 1.5 DIN or approx 3" x 7 1/4". Many GM and Chrysler factory radios are of this size. The Double DIN is approx 4" x 7 1/4". Many foreign cars (Honda, Acura, Toyota) and many of the newer Fords are of this size. And NO you cannot fit a double DIN in your Camaro without some SERIOUS custom work. HTH.

Thank for the info "TopHatJimmy". i think i am getting kinda confused the more info i am searching on those headunits. Pioneer doesn't have internal amp or am-fm tuner so i need extra stuff to make it work. Alpine i don't know what else i need. which ones from the list are plug and play? i am leaning toward alpine , clarion or panasonic. btw, i don't need more than one av cuz i only plan on adding a sub. Monsoon speakers are fine.
