Radio Randomly Shuts Off

Well ever since I put in my Pioneer CD player in the car, btw my car didn't have a deck in it when I got it, the CD player randomly turns off. I know it's not a bad wiring job, because I soldered the wires together! Also, it holds my clock time and radio presets, so that leads me to have no idea why it does this? Can anyone help?

Sounds like a bad connection, could be a loose pin in the harness, or the connections for the faceplate could be dirty..

Id check the harness though, working at best buy i came across quite a few faulty pins.

Well I hard-wired the cd player to the car. So there are no pins or adapters being used. But I figured if it truely loses power it would lose the clock time and such but it doesn't? Well it does if I disconect the battery, lol.

well theres two power wires, one is remote and the other is " memory" so the radio always has power as long as the battery is hooked up, but the switch wire controls power flow to the on/off

check the connections from the headunit to the faceplate though, sometimes those cause problems, either dirty or just not getting a full connection.

If still nothing, could be an issue with the headunit itself

I'll try cleaning the faceplate connections to see if that helps. BTW, what should I clean it with?

with the eraser of a pencil, also you can use electronics spray cleaner if u have that, spray it on, it dries almost immeadiatly.

Well that didn't work. I must have bad wiring under the dash somewhere... Oh Great :rolleyes:

Well I've got the problem down to the wire. The stock wire for the acc. power wire is "tweaked" somewhere. If I jiggle it, the radio will turn on and off, so I need to move my acc. power wire on my deck somewhere else. I would try my cigg. lighter wire, but it stays on all the time. Is there somewhere else I can tap into that "turns on" when the keys are turned on?

go to the fuse box on the drivers side of the dash, and there is an acc wire, you can go there... it wont hurt anything at all because alot of the new gm cars do not come with an acc wire, and you have to run one to the fuse box.. it should be a 25 amp fuse.. and labeled acc, or courtesy.
