• Bought a 12' L5...what amp?

    The L5 can handle 1200 watts. My current amp is a Pioneer 800 watt. What do you guys think I should do? I didnt get a kick-*** sub to have it under-powered. Can I just add another 300-400 watt amp to the system?

    What's my best bet here?

    i have an audiobahn 8000t on my solobaric L7 10 1200 watt sub i have to turn the amp down a lil so it works out really good for a cheap amp..ask neone the audiobahn amps are getting a decent rep now, i have 2 in my car so they work good for me for the price!!! pay 150 brand new on ebay or 350 for a kicker one with same power to power the sub!!! and neone else can say all they want but my 8000t can blow my solobaric if i wanted to, ratings are 800rms and 1600 max i believe!!!

      1 12" L5 can handle 600W RMS, not 1200. Now if you bought 2, yes you need 1200W.

        Right so that means my Pioneer puts out 400rms max? So does that mean I should get a small amp that puts out like 200rms? Or should I go and get a 600rms amp?

        What are the differences in just using 1 amp as opposed to using 2?

          I'm assuming this is your current amp... http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/pn...l?olderModel=Y

          250Wx1 @ 4ohms
          360Wx1 @ 2ohms

          These are RMS. What impedance is the sub? DVC 2 or 4ohm? If its 2ohm, you can wire it up to a 1ohm or 4ohm load on the amp. If its 4ohm, you can wire it up to a 2ohm or 8ohm load on the amp.

          Here is the jist of that...

code:

2ohm DVC sub --> 1ohm load amp
          --> 4ohm load amp

          4ohm DVC sub --> 2ohm load amp
          --> 8ohm load amp
[/QUOTE]So, using your current amp, if you sub is 2ohm, you can push 250W out of the 600W the sub will handle. If the sub is 4ohm, you can push 360W out of the 600W the sub will handle.

          Depending on your money situation, you can get a new amp or keep the one you have and underpower the sub.

          Also, only use one amp per sub.

            I see. The sub is 2 ohms.

            So my best bet is to ditch the amp and just get something like the Audiobahn chet mentioned? They are pretty cheap on ebay.

            Thanks for the explanation.

                Yeah, I can do that.

                Care to tell me how much rms it would give my solo-barbaric?

                Sorry for being such a n00b.

                  Rated Power @ 1 ohm: 600 x 1

                  It would be wired like so...

                  Don't be sorry for not knowing, thats why you're here. To learn.

                  Might want to wait for more input on this though. I'm still fairly new when it comes to car audio, so may want to wait on buying the amp after a few more opinions.

                    Alright. The amp will have to wait until next pay-check (i'm 16 and work at a burger joint 30 hours a week).

                    I appreciate all the help. I'll let you know how it turns out. Thanks again.

                      Yeah I know what you mean. I'm 17 and barely make $100 a week. $40 of that goes into gas, and I still have to buy the T-top box for my subs ($300).
