• amp power wire attached to "battery auxillary"?

I'm installing a pretty nice sound system in my '98 Camaro. I'm gonna drill a hole through the firewall by the drivers side for the power wire to go through (the wire that goes from the battery to my amplifier).

I noticed that there is a "battery auxilary" (BAT. AUX.) terminal in the engine bay, towards the driver's side. Would it be OK to attach my amplifier power wire there rather than directly at the battery. I mean, that would make more sense since it's on the same side as I'm drilling that hole, and also that would save me getting a special terminal for the battery.

What do you guys think of this? Would my amp get enough juice from this BAT. AUX. terminal?

I did it with mine and my brother's cars. Plenty of juice for two 10" subs in both cars.

Thanks, I appreciate your help! That should work fine for me too, since I also have two 10" subs

what size power wire are u using, i would not recommend it at all if it's bigger than a 10ga.

8ga. and 4ga. are too big for it.
im not saying it wont work but it's not a good idea

Do NOT drill a hole in your firewall, theres no need to. There is an existing hole you can use to route your power wire through. The hole is located on the Passenger side...behind the computer. To remove the computer, theres 2 (10mm) bolts I believe you have to remove and the computer will pull out. Its kind of a pain to pull out but it comes out. But once its out you'll see a rubber grommet in the firewall...pass your power wire through there.

The only way I would use that "AUX" positive terminal located on the drivers side is if you are using a very small amp. The factory wire that feeds that "aux" terminal is roughly only 8awg. Personally, I would go right to the battery. They make a special bolt to replace the bolt that screws into the battery terminal. The bolt you can buy is longer and has a nut on it so you can ad on additional wiring. No cutting whatsoever is needed on the factory wiring. Circuit City, Best Buy and even Walmart sells it.

They are 9.99+tax at best buy, more than worth it though.
