I have asked this before and got no real answers. I have a JL stealthbox and i pushed it all the way back, and the grey reat drivers side panel will not fit over the stealthbox. I have to cut the trim piece and now it doesnt look good. I will try to get a pic so you guys understand what is happening. Where can i get a trim piece that will fit over the stealthbox? Thanks for the help in advance.
I didnt know that it was possible to install it without taking the piece off. But yes, i did take it off. I even took it to a local audio shop and he couldnt figure it out either?????
My car is a 98 V-6. And yes i removed all the carpet behind the stealthbox. Can anyone help me out who has a 98 firebird with the JL stealthbox. Thanks.
What plastic piece are you talking about. My box is carpet. And i have taken the carpet out in the "hole" and there is nothing behind it. Could by stealthbox be to big or something? There is nothing behind the box, no wire looms or anything.
The plastic piece runs from the seam behind the back seat all the way to the back of the trunk. At the seam it has two molded clips that fall into slots behind it, and at the back it's held in with a round plastic panel holder. (It's about an inch and a half long, and has really fine, really deep threads and a flat round head)
This is the panel that needs to be replaced on some cars. Look here:
The plastic piece is the gray piece that is directly above and to the right of the box. THIS PIECE MUST BE REMOVED before installing the box.
If this piece is removed, and there's nothing in the way, the box will fit. It's as simple as that.
If you had the Bose system, you'll have to find the right plastic piece, or cut the one you have.
Good luck!

There might be a lip on interior side of the wheel well. My TA had this, and so did my brothers('93). My brother ground part of that lip off, I just made sure the top was under the plastic and let my amp rack hold it in. It is not level, but close enough.
But we have "The Woodshop" stealth boxes, they may be quite different also.
Note it fit in my camaro w/o a problem.

I have the MTX version in my 98 and I dont like how it fits at all. The stealthbox fits so much better IMO. I even carpeted my MTX box to make it fit better but there are still gaps in some places. I dont have any pics of it yet. If anyone has a stealthbox and wants to trade for a carpeted MTX box I would be glad to do that. If not, guess I will have to deal with it.

OK....Brian.....for the last time, I took that plastic piece with the lip OFF. I removed it. I took it off. It was on the ground when i was installing the stealthbox. The carpet that was behind the box, is in my basement, so that is not in the way. There are no wire looms or anything behind the box.
It just wont go back all the way. I obviously have to get a new piece, but i dont know where to get it from. If you check the second to last sentence in my original post, you will see that i need to know where to get the trim piece that will fit over.
Seppo how exactly did you ground it out. Can you email me and help me out with this. My whole hatch area looks great except for this "cut" trim piece. Thanks everyone for their helpful comments.
you can get the piece from gmpartsdirect.com
the only cars that should need to order a new piece though are the early 4th gen's that came equipped with the bose system.
