  • Sound Deadener inside sub box

Awhile back i seen some one who built a box for 2 12's and they put sound deadener inside the box. would this have any benifit? or would it actually hurt performance of the subs.

I think people line cotton on the inside of boxes to make sure the sound wave doesnt bounce around to much inside of the box. I would think that's teh idea behind the sound deadener inside the box too. If thats what you want to do I would jsut use cotton though..save money and i dont think there is alot of performance benifit anyway.

Umm, pretty sure this idea is a hoax. I have heard that polyfill breaks up "standing waves"....sure. But sound deadening is used to add weight to panels to reduce outside induced noises. I don't see a properly built box gaining anything from this.

Well I rarely pull rank, but as a physicist that works in the field of acoustic wave propagation, let me assure that that explanation is complete and utter bull shìt.

We build boxes with manufactured woods precisely because the materials are less compliant. Adding a compliant material inside the box is silliness.
