Sigh, well I have a Rockford Fosgate 300s Amp matched with a Audiobahn 300 watt rms sub (rms for amp is 300 as well). Well got it all installed, it was running even with the monsoon subs in the back. It's hooked to an Aiwa Head Unit. Entry level Head I think. Anyway, the sub barely makes any noises! When turned up I can hear a slight noise coming from it, and when bass comes it just farts a bit, it's soooo low! How could I have blown it in under a week!?!?! God Dang it, what could be wrong?

I also looked at the speaker and nothing seems wrong...

First off check to make sure the polarity is set correctly on sub wiring. Second make sure your RCA cables are in good condition and are hooked up correctly. Third check the gain on the amp, if your gain isn't turned up then you aren't going to get any amplification. All simple stuff but people overlook these things sometimes.

but the sub worked in the beginning, for the first 3 days, but now it barely makes a noise. I didn't push it... does it sound like it could be blown!?

could be, or the amp could be blown. the quickest way to find out is to hook the sub up in someone elses car with their amp and see if it works, if it doesn't take the sub out of the box and check that all the wires on the inside of the box have a good connection with the sub and the input jack. also check if your amp smells kinda funny, cause it could be blown as well. one other thing to check is to look at your positive power wire and see if it is somehow touching the chassi of the car. a good place to check for this is where you went through the firewall, if you didn't use a rubber gromet or something to keep it from chafing then it could have slowly rubbed the plastic covering off the wire. other than that i would just assume the sub is blown (try someone elses if you can and you will know right away if that is it). or you can even try it with a cheap $5 speaker and see if the speaker makes any sound at a low volume on you HU and low gain on the amp though so it doesn't blow on the spot. i have blown subs before and it sucks cause its not the easiest thing to be sure of [img]graemlins/stickpoke.gif[/img] you never want to accept that it is dead.

dunno how long it's gonna take to get a response to this post, but I unplugged the sub, and put in one of my infinity's 6x9s and it made the same damn sound. Low volume, and a farting type noise when bass came about. I've had the amp about 2.5 years, but have used it far less than 1 year. What could this be?????

oh the LED right light on the amp, turns on so I'm assuming the amp is at least somewhat ok.. any thoughts!~?

did you hook up your remote off/on wire right?

i had the same problem with my fosgate 1800 watt amp.

it turned out that i did a ****ty splice job and the wire disconnected ..

looked at the wires by the head unit, seemed fine. Gotta look under the firewall but I don't think that's the problem... guess I've gotta tear all this **** out again. Could it be a fuse in the amp? There's one in there right? How can I check the amp?

To test if it's blown:

unplug the sub from the amp and get a battery, like a big battery. I use the battery from my dad's cordless drill.
Touch the wires to the positive and negative ends on the batter, the speaker should pop out (assuming you have + with + and - with - )

If you don't hear a pop... it's blown.

It's been my experience that blown subs will still move the cone, but just sound horrible. Crank it up and it'll jump around like crazy but sound like a popcorn popper.

Since you tried with another speaker and get the same results then your amp just isn't putting out. Do you have the amp connected directly to the head unit via RCA's or are you using speaker-level inputs or an adapter? How are you powering the amp, do you have some good power wire coming directly from the battery? Using a good ground wire, scraped paint off the body where the connection is?

ok, to me, it sounds like your amp is shot.

its not any wires, because you are getting sound from it. its not the fuse, not the power, not the remote, or the ground.

if the gain is all the way up, check the HPF/LPF switch.

put it on LPF, and see if you get bass and no highs.

if that doesnt work, your amp is shot.
