What is a good strong type of wood that doesn't tend to slightly curve on long pieces and is still fairly cheap?

Instead of that wacky amp rack I sent you a picture of in email, i've got a new one that I can do myself and I think is going to look better.

edit - oh yeah, i'm hoping to find some 5/8 inch thick wood

      Chameleon,

Don't know if you'll be able to find 5/8" board. Depending on the length, 1/2" might work. MDF, that is. I make all my amp racks out of 1/2" mdf. Anything else will chip and crumble. 3/4" would be extremely sturdy, but overkill for an amp rack. Plus, 3/4" is lots heavier.

So what is your plan? Just curious. Good luck.

Well, it's very simple actually. It's gonna be on the top of the rear hump still. There's gonna be one big piece on the bottom of course. That I will velcro like hell to the carpet just for safety. On both sides and against the back seat there will be walls that come up flush with the back seat. Then in the middle there will be a board diagonally mounted to tilt and display my amps towards the back.

I've got a couple options for the top. Not sure what I want yet. I can go with just a plain carpeted piece. Or, I could send you the piece to put a logo and vinyl on. Might even just cover it with a black cloth if I think colling will be a problem. Both my amps run very cool though so I doubt it will be a problem. There's more but i'm very anxious to go buy the materials and put it together. Gonna go do that now. Later.

Update - I've got the base and walls finished. It's kinda late now so i'll do the diagonal piece that the amps will actually mount to tomorrow. I don't know how i'm going to make the grommet holes. I don't have anything that large. It's looking very nice so far though. Wish my digital camera worked. I might not even carpet the sucker. I'm thinking about some wood finish for it. Do you know any wood finish that makes MDF look real nice megabass?
