For christmas, I got new speakers (Pioneer) and an amp (MTX). I was going to mount the amp on the deck in the trunk since I have T-tops and need the majority of trunk space for them. The guy whos going to install it suggested I put it in the little cubby hole on the side. Anyone ever put am amp there!? I don't think it will fit ... but we'll see. Any suggestions?!?

Where to put amp.

Yeah if the amp is small enough you can mount in the cubby hole. Another place would to mount it on the back wall of the trunk (the back where the tail lights are). PewterBird did it like that with his amp...
If you do decide to mount it to the deck, make sure your friend doesn't use long screws since your fuel tank is located directly underneath there.2006 Tiburon

I put mine in the wheel well where the spare tire is supposed to go. I just cut a piece of plywood to go around the wheel, painted it black, drilled some holes in the sheet metal, and mounted the amp to it. It turned out really nice actually. No need to worry about it getting stolen by putting it on the back deck, and it is completely concealed with the plastic cover on. my friend screwed into his fuel tank a while back. all he did as a fix was to jb-weld it. it has worked well but i wont ride with him anymore. i suggest putting it somewhere else like against the back of the well on a mounting board.2001 Arctic White Firebird With Black Drop Top

3:42 Gears
Zexel LSD
BMR upper A-Arms
Trans Am exhaust with 3\" I-pipe and cutout
Modified intake
Mecham Hood
Trans Go shift kit
Making rear control arms and panhard

Hmm ... the back wall ... I'm just worried I'd knock it with my t-tops.
My buddy is going to make some custom cover thing if I decide to put it on the deck. It will match the carpet, and look like nothing is there. I'd really rather have it somewhere else though. Anyone have pictures of it mounted in the cubby, or by the spare?!? Thanks for the ideas! Niky....I had a hard time finding a place to put my amp. There are pros and cons to every place.
The Cuby hole is nice, but if you are planning on getting a stealth box, it won't work
Right behind the seats is ok, but if you carry a lot of crap in your car, its going to get damaged. Plus you have to worry about not hitting the gas tank
And if you put it in a box behind the rear seats, then you have to worry about ventalation.
Im not saying my way is the best way, but for me it worked the best. Because When I have stuff on the ledge behind the seats, I keep the flap closed to the trunk. And the stuff in the trunk is at the bottom.
I have ttops too and with my install it fits fine. I wouldn't worry about hitting your amp with your ttops its not going to break. I would worry about hitting your ttops against anything else. Those things are expencive.

Thanks for the help, guys! I am going to go with the cubby hole or the back wall ... most likely the back wall cuz the amp is pretty big (MTX 564). I'll try to snap a few pics when I get it in ... tomorrow's the day!!! Thanks again!! Having someone else install it for you? Yeah, that sounds like you Niky.
I put my amp on the rear deck. And my sub box takes up the whole rear well. In the future (hopefully by the end of this summer) I'll have some 6x9s or 8" subs back there on the rear deck too.1996 Pontiac Firebird
Black, 3.8L A4

When it comes to electronics, I have NO CLUE what I'm doin' ... so yes ... I'm having someone do it. Amps are confusing as hell!
When it comes to gettin' down and dirty with the rest of it ... I'm all for doing it myself! In fact, I just ordered my new intake .. wanna see me install it?!? HUH? HUH? DO YA?!? ;)\'97 Camaro, 3800 Series II, Anniversary Edition * Bright Green Metallic --> T-Tops * Flowmaster Exhaust * TPS Throttle enhancer * SLP Cold air intake .....
http://www.cardomain.com/id/camaro1821
AIM - Cycochic69
