• Quick question

Ok, I think I have decided I want a few extra bumps with the music. I have already replaced the factory speakers with new JBL 6.5 2 wayz.

I now know that with the stock head unit, the new speakers wont sound much better over stock, but I want to keep the stocker because of the equalizer.
But which HU would you choose with a 175-250 max price on the HU, Can I get a HU and an aftermarket equalizer for that price range?

Now on for the speakers, I am getting a box from subthump, havent decided on 2 12's or 3 10's. Your ideas?

I was thinking JL Audio subs and amps. On the sub/amp combo, I am thinking no more than 650 excluding the box.
Any ideas?
I got stuff...<br /><br /> <a href=\"http://community.webshots.com/user/mksucum\" target=\"_blank\">http://community.webshots.com/user/mksucum</a>

3 10's give u a better crip bass sound, it hits more beats and sounds cleaner but it won;t hit the low's as much as 2 12's (which u kinda look for in a sub). Personaly I like mine 2 10's over mine old 2 12's. 3 10's will just give u more thump over 2 10's. Its all about wut your looking for, go to a setreo store and check it out for yourself, thats wut i found was the best way.
And also that price range for the hu and the equalizer is a lil low. If you want a good HU and a good equalizer u might wanna bump that price up a couple hundred.

The Pioneer P47DH is a din and a 1/2 size just like the stock unit. It includes a 9-band EQ and a single 2V RCA out. Think you'll be looking to amp your other speakers as well? If so, this might not be a good choice for you.

The ol' two 12"s vs. three 10" debate. I went through this myself. Remember that it is harder to wire three 10"s to a single amp then two 12"s.....unless you plan on using JL Audio's 10W6v1. They have dual 6 ohm coils. Perfect for running in a trio. What type of music do you listen to? How much bass are you really looking for? If you listen to a lot of rap or bass music, you would be better off going with a deep well ported box for dual 12"s. Maybe dual Alpine Type-R's powered by a JBL BP1200.1? That should pound you into the next decade. Spend the extra cash on bumping up the headunit to an Alpine 9813! :D

yea i listen to rap, and hip hop ALOT.

Gotta love 50, luda, 2-pac, twista, etc, they all have low low bass.

I think I am going to go with the 2 12's.

So would the alpine R's be a better route then 2 JLw5's or 6's?

ahhhh I think i am going to go with the alpine R 12's, 200 bucks for 2 on ebay, not bad...

I have a friend that has a sony 1200 watt amp, never used, I think it is an Xplod amp, I may be able to snag it for cheap, like 120 bucks or something, would that be good enough amp for these type of speakers?
600 watts per sub, sounds like I can have some nice kick when im cruising around town?

Wow! Very impressive for that price. A whole slew of features! Only a 3-band EQ, but it also has full bass controls and built in LP crossovers. That might make up for it.

JL doesn't make a W5 series. But I'd say that the Type-R's are very close to the JLW6v1 line. However, the Type-R's work very well in small boxes, which is always a positive thing for us f-body guys. Also, be advised that some of Sony's car audio products are not what they appear to be. Their amps are probably the best of their gear though....what is the model number of the amp your friend is going to sell you? We need to know that before we can tell you if it will work well with those particular subs. You will want an amp that outputs the most power on a 2 ohm load. And look at the RMS (continuos) power rating, NOT the peak or max ratings.

actually, have decided to go with what a friend wants to sell me.
A custom box for our cars, and 2 brand new never used, fosgate 12's HX2.

He wants 300 hundred, and I will offer him 250, and i hope he takes it, but he said it would be killer to get 2, 1000 watt amps...

I dont want to blow my windows out
But what amp, and amperage, you think would go good with these?

Which HX2's are they? The punch or power series? Also, which voice coil config are they? Dual 2 ohm or dual 4 ohm? Tell me more about the box......is it a custom made box? Is it the Q-logic box?

Punch HX2
dual 4-ohm voice coils
CONsealer gasket hides mounting screws and prevents air leaks around the frame
frequency response 26-200 Hz
power range 150-500 watts RMS (250 watts per voice coil)
peak power 1,000 watts
sensitivity 88 dB SPL
top mount depth 5-13/16"
sealed box volume 0.8-4.0 cubic feet
ported box volume 1.75-4.0 cubic feet

The box I believe is a custom made one, NOT a Q-logic, but may be a subthump, I will look into it...

The JBL BP1200.1 is a steal at $260 for 1200WRMS. If you can afford something better, check out the Autotek XS1500X. PLENTY of power for those HX2's and lots of extras. Remember, you are looking for an amp that outputs max power at a 1 ohm load.

I would refuse to own anything with the Legacy name on it. MAYBE if they make wire.... :D . What I'm saying is that Legacy makes poor quality car audio gear. Their amps are over-rated and have poor reliability. If you need something cheaper then the JBL I recommended, go for the Lanzar VIBE 1200D. DO NOT look at any other line from Lanzar. Only the VIBE and OPTI lines are decent. Not PROVIBE or whatever....just the plain ol' VIBE and OPTI line.
