• Rewiring stereo system into new car?

Im not an audio buff or anything, so sorry about the newbie questions. I currently have a 97 Firebird with a JVC headunit, Sony Xplod speakers to replace the stock 4 ones, and two 10" subs in a ported box in the back.

I am thinking of getting a 96 T/A Hardtop with really low miles. Can I swap all the audio from the bird to the T/A by some installers? If so then I think the old wiring is still there for the old speakers, i'd just have to buy 4 stockers. I still have the stock headunit. I would be selling my car on the side, so I want it to have a system in it.

If that doesnt work then surely I could have someone install just the headunit to the stock speakers until I have enough $ saved for the other stuff. Sorry if this sounds confusing, Im rushing typing this before class tonight Any suggestions in general is cool too. Thanks guys!

Yeah. It is a bit confusing.... but we forgive you. ;)

Of course you can use all your aftermarket audio gear in your new T/A. Don't know what you mean by "some installers" though. Do you mean can a professional installer do it? Sure. But you can do it yourself very easily and save some cash.

If you're just looking for any ol' speakers to put into your old bird, pick up a pair of Wal-Mart el cheapos. Maybe cheaper then the stockers. OR you could just leave your Sony's in there and put those few bucks towards a new nicer set for the T/A. :D

Yea, by installers I mean professionals. I was really just talking about if they were compatible, like if the wiring works the same for a 96 and 97. You covered that for me tho, thanks!

Decisions, decisions. I don't even remember how much that stuff cost me it has been so long. Got any good websites with audio deals?

To tell you the truth, Sony doesn't make the best quality car audio gear. Sub-par actually. Not trying to dog on ya, but if you're thinking of buying new gear anyway...... ;)

Cheapest website with the widest selection is easily going to be Ebay. I've made roughly 100 purchases through Ebay and have had only one slightly bad transaction. No biggie though. Just buy from a powerseller or someone with 1,000+ positive feedbacks and you'll be good to go. How much you looking to spend? Looking to replace the door and rear seat area speakers only?

Yeah those are the ones I was thinking of as well lol. The really cheap ones that don't even come in a box, they just hang on a hook wrapped in clear plastic I think and they have little chrome dust caps.

I'd love to see the look on the new owners face when they go to replace those bad boys.

I really wont have time to do the swap bc I work full time and take classes at night. How much would I expect from an audio installer to do a complete swamp from my old car to my new car and vice verse?

Places like Circuit City or Best Buy will probably charge you for each item you want installed. They have a little price chart hanging up and I think its around $25-30 for a headunit install, 25-35 for door speakers and probably the same amount for the rear speakers...and all this is just for one car I bet. These are all just rough figures.

If you can spare 15 minutes here or there on your own time, do it yourself in sections and save yourself a lot of money. The head unit can be removed and the old one put back in less than 15 minutes easy.

Nda is correct. Those bastards would probably charge you piece by piece as if you were buying all new gear. And yes, the headunit swap can nearly be done during a commercial break.

yeah f-body's are some of the easiest installs i have ever done. Other than crimping the wiring harness it litterally took me 1 min the last time i did mine.
