  • Where are some 12V sources?

I need to know about 3 different sources.

    1) I need a 12v source in/near the rear hatch, preferably passenger side quarter-panel area. My car didn't come with the Monsoon system or the stock CD changer, so neither of those are options for me (unless they come stock wired, but I haven't seen anything similar to that back there). It needs to be a constant source, preferably.

    2) I need a 12v source near the center console. Again, this should be a constant source, non switching.

    3) I have a Pioneer DEH-P4400 head unit and need the 12v switching lead off it (like you would run to an amp to let it know when to turn on or off). I know most people probably don't have that particular model memorized, but where can I look that information up?

    Thanks,
    Rob

im guessing your using this for a power antenna, wire it from the radio, to switch, to the antenna. The radio should have 2 blue wires exiting the back, maybe one, you need the one that is either "accessory or remote turn on" which will be on all the time, for a amp, or the one for power antenna, if thats what your doing with it. If using a switch, i like to wire it to the remote wire, so the antenna does not keep going up and down when you change radio/cd.

There is no switched wire back pass side, on a camaro, the birds, get the power antenna harness.

for the center console, the orange wire on the ciggarette lighter is constant powered.

Well, two needed sources down, now I just need a non-switching source in the back (if there is one). I'd prefer not to run a wire to the front of the car with the other, but it looks like I may have to if no others are found.

Oh, and this is for the power antenna. According to this writeup I'm going to need to tap a non-switching also (I'm guessing so the antenna has the power to pull itself down when the radio gets turned off.)

Edit: If there aren't any non-switching 12v's in the back of the car, is it safe to have this many things connected to the cigarette source and possibly plug in something like a cell phone charger?

your right about the power antenna needing a constant source. im not sure whats there, if you don't have a monsoon system. The shock sensor might have power, but i would not tap into that.

the QTEC and antenna only draw power when they're in the moving positions, so i would not worry too much about the current draw. CEll phone chargers draw like 2 amps, so thats not a big load. I would however, not run your QTEC, turn the antenna off, and run a high power inverter at the same time ;)

So I guess it's looking like I'll have to run a 12v wire to the front of the car for the antenna. Oh well, what's one more wire to go with all the others I'll be running then?

Quick question, I'm going to put a fuse on that wire so I don't have to worry about anything happening to the antenna. How big of a fuse should it need? I know not big, but how small can it go and not burn out constantly?

1 amp should be fine for the switched wire to the antenna, i would do a 10 amp for the constant power though.
