  • Series or Parallel wiring

I have an audiobahn 10" sub rated at 900w rms with dual 4ohm voice coils (2ohm or 8ohm operation), and an audiobahn amp that is rated at 800w rms at 4ohm operation, or 400w rms at 2ohm operation.

If i wire the sub to operate at 8ohms and bridge the amplifier at 800w rms, how much power will the speaker actually be getting? Will the additional 4ohms of the sub reduce the power?

Which way would give me more power to the speaker, or would they be about equal because of the difference in ohm operation?

I just thought of an idea...since the amp is 2 channel, could I just run each voice coil off of a different channel and then have the 2ohm operatoin that I wanted?

umm i think you have your numbers mixed up it should be 400 @ 4ohms and 800 @ 2

4 ohms is the best all a round, hit ok and dont over do it,

i don't reomend doing 1 coil in one channle and 1 coil in the other (the channle are different and will cause distortion and make extra heat)

for 2 ohms you need to wire the coils in parrale and connect to amp,

for 4 ohms you need wire the coils in series and birdge the amp

if the amp is internaly briged DO NOT BRIGE IT AGAIN.

for 4 ohms just hook up each coil to one channle/// i suggest running the coils in siries and briging the amp for 4 ohms MUCH better sound and less heat, better for speaker and amp both

for 1 ohm parrale the coils and bridge the amp
*** only do 1 ohm if the amp can di it*****

No, my numbers aren't mixed up...The amp is rated at 400w rms at 2ohms for each channel and 800w rms at 4ohms bridged (internally)

are you shure thats not backwards? 2 ohms should be the higher number

            never mind brige lol

ok hook up your coil in series and bridge it, 4 + 4 = 8 /2 =4 ohms

if you run it at 8 ohms you will only get 400 watts RMS. run it at 4 (boox should show you how) or 2 ohms

That's what I thought, I'll just sell my amp and get a mono amp that is stable at 2ohms.

Parallel the subwoofer at 2Ohms, and run them bridged across the amplifier... Most amps are bridgeable.
