It looks like the rears need a spacer to get a decent sized speaker magnet in the same hole.
I dont have a monsoon, just a factory CD with eq and want to replace all speakers(doors and rear)
what is a good ones that are reasonable in price.
I would consider upgraded ones that are fairly new too.
umm, for cheap you can go to www.thezeb.com and get the cdt 6.5 cl's for $150 for a pair for the fronts and the cdt 6.5 coax for the sails for 50 bucks. these are the best speakers you could ever buy to replace the stockers with.

the sails are the speakers in your sail panels which are the ones next to to passengers in the back seat. these are 7" stock for the monsoon (i would think yours are the same). to do this i just made a ring out of a thin piece of wood to get the mounting holes in the right spot for the 6.5 speakers (its real easy with a rotozip/router). the mounting depth is not a problem as that refers to how far back into the hole they go and there is plenty of room in their.

I ve always referred to sails or sail panel as the portion of a hardtop roof on sides between rear window and rear side windows. Convertibles dont have this, they have an arm rest and top frame cover.
My rear speakers have no room between the magnets and top frame and its supports. There is plenty of depth behind the speaker but no room where magnet is.
If you have a convertible put your top down and look
around the speaker magnet. It was my understanding that in 97 you couldnt get a Monsoon with a droptop.
technically you are righ, we dont have sails because we have verts, but since that is what they are in the hardtop versions that is what i always refer to them as. i have an 01 with the monsoon and i swaped out those speakers before and really wasnt a problem at all (other than rewiring to an aftermarket amp). i dont know about the monsoon being in 97 verts or not though. if you want i can see about meeting up with you to get a better idea of what's wrong. email me if you want to.
