Sometimes my amp will cutout if I have te music up too loud. I can see the voltage meter on the car slipping toward 13v when this happens. Do I need a capacitor? BTW I have a 760 watt amp.

In my experience when amps cut out it is typically from overheating (and no offense but pioneer does have a problem with that sometimes). i would check where you put your amp and how hot it is getting when it is cutting out, just touch it and if it feels hot not just a little warm then i would say that is probably your problem.2001 Arctic White Firebird With Black Drop Top

3:42 Gears
Zexel LSD
BMR upper A-Arms
Trans Am exhaust with 3\" I-pipe and cutout
Modified intake
Mecham Hood
Trans Go shift kit
Making rear control arms and panhard

It still puzzles me though. When I had one sub hooked up it was fine but today I put the other one in and it started doing that. The only thing that would make it run was to cut the volume down. That pisses me off. I like my music loud.
PS I had the t-tops down and it was 75 degrees today. I have my amp right behind the rear seats on that shelf thing so It should have been getting plenty of cool air.95 Firebird
http://www.cardomain.com/memberpage/673250
http://photobucket.com/albums/y217/andrewbrandon19/

me on a good day------> linky

how do you have it wired.
im guessing you have it so the amp is being over worked, getting hot , and going into thermal protection.

Here are the specs for your amp:
Continuous Power (14.4V): 125Wx2 (4 ohms), 190Wx2 (2 ohms), 380Wx1 (4 ohms)
And from what I gather about the subs, Sony produced both a 4 ohm SVC and a 4 ohm DVC. The SVC sub had the model number XS-L1235 and the DVC sub had the model number XS-L1235D4. So it would appear that you have two 4 ohm SVC's. Exactly what I feared. Notice in User1101's diagram the bottom line says "Load at the amp: 2 ohms"? And as shown above in bold, your amp is only stable to 4 ohms when running in bridged mode. I bet if you series the coils together (8 ohm load) you'd be able to crank it twice as high without the amp cutting off. Indeed, you're amp in kicking into protection.... :(

OK I tried it. The sound is more crisp. However it won't hit nearly as hard. Should I just run them on two seperat chalnnels? Cannot realy afford a better amp at the moment.95 Firebird
http://www.cardomain.com/memberpage/673250
http://photobucket.com/albums/y217/andrewbrandon19/

me on a good day------> linky
