Update.....cut wires have been fixed

Picked up the car from the dealership yesterday and they installed a new power antenna and ran a new antenna wire. Looks like they even put a new plug on back of the head unit cause I don't see any cut wires. (they had the car 2 days).

All the factory speakers are working along with the monsoon amp; however, it sounds like complete garbage. The system is pretty much all bass (sounds very nasal) with no highs. The best way to explain the sound would be if you had your eq set with the bass and treble all the way down, and had the midrange all the way up. The speakers are prob all blown.

At first, my wife didn't want me doing any stereo mods when we bought the car. After the way things sound now though she pretty much gave me the green light to do a full system. [img]graemlins/rock.gif[/img] Can't wait to yank that stuff out of there.

Cool. Glad to hear that the dealership worked with you so well. Looking for recommendations on a new stereo? What are you looking to replace? Everything? How much you looking to spend?

Yeah I'm looking to replace everything. The factory system in here now is terrible lol. Any recommendations on some decent components for the doors would be helpfull. I've been out of the car audio scene for almost 7 years now so I'm kinda unfamiliar what's "good" anymore. Not looking for 1000,'s of watts or anything, just clean-quality sound. The kinda stuff I used to have in my cars back then were PPI Art Series amps, JL subs, Eclipse Cd-player.

My plans are to install some nice components in the doors and run those with a decent amp. (thinking maybe a 4-channel amp to run fronts and other two channels bridged to run a sub) I also want to add 1 subwoofer, like a 10", in the hatch. I want to keep everything extremely stealth and clean. (had two ppi amps in my old 92 Camaro that was robbed years ago). I kinda like the idea of how I've seen others using that sub-box that goes in that hole on the left side of the hatch. I'm thinking a 10" should be enough low end for me cause I'm not looking to "boom."

Is Alpine still any good? I like the looks of some of their in dash CD-players, like the CDA-9807. I like its old school look so to speak with the slot for the cd...(don't really care for flip down/motorized face plates). Any other recmommendations on single cd head units would be good too. (don't want sony) I would like to keep the cost down somewhat; can't afford all high end stuff like I used to when I still lived at home lol. Thanks for any info.

Nice gear in your old ride. So you probably know that great SQ is far more difficult to achieve then high SPL. And can be just as expensive. Got a dollar figure in mind? Maybe a certain favorite brand name? Since you don't plan on running rear speakers and only one 10" and amp, you got some "extra" money to spend elsewhere.....right? [img]tongue.gif[/img] ;) You mean you don't want the CDT ES-620's? If you can afford better then that... you just let me know. I got a few others I could link you to.(Alpine Z15M's anyone? :D ) Seriously now, [img]tongue.gif[/img] , let us know a specific price range for each piece of gear and we'll give you some great recommendations. Check out this link for your box. I'm thinking go with the Alpine 9811. The 9807 only has the Bass Engine feature, whereas the 9811 has the Bass Engine Plus. This will give you the time correction feature. Not to mention they are almost the exact same price. Next, a dual 4 ohm 10" Alpine Type-R in the driver's side stealth box. This deal on a pair of "B-stock" (hardly)CDT's or Focal's Polyglass line all powered by a single Autotek XS-900.4 in a sweet looking amp rack across the back wall. [img]smile.gif[/img] Wadda think?

I wanna put together a nice sounding system but items such as the CDT ES-620 :eek: ....are a tad out of my price range lol.

Kinda hard to give a dollar figure for everything in one shot cause I'm planning on buying things one at a time. The money I put down on the car kinda drained some of my reserve funds if you know what I mean lol. My first piece though will be the head unit. A price range on that I'd say would have to be 300max! Although the Alpine CDA-7998 would be nice :D anyway... I do like your suggestion on the 9811. I'm thinking that would look better since its black (have all black interior). I think the 9807 only comes in silver

Here is a picture of my how I installed my system in my 94 bird. (I sold the 94 and put this system in my 92 Camaro minus the soundstream amp....the S.O.B'n thiefs got it all :mad: ) The blue amp in the back was an old SoundStream Ref-700 running the 2 W6's...it slammed nicely. The PPI A400 ran the highs. I'd like to do something simular to this in my 2002 but on a smaller scale. I'd like to flush mount one amp and run one sub. I'm gonna mess around this weekend and try and build my own box to fit in the drivers side hole. Thanks again for the suggestions, keep em' comming.

Then the XS-900.4 is PERFECT for you. It's not called the stealth series for nothing! :D But rather then mounting the amp on the hump behind the seat, make something for the back wall. Keep that stealthness. Here's a cool walkthrough for you. Might be of some use. Ever worked with fiberglass before? What about making a fiberglass driver's side stealth box? I could give you a hand with that. I've done my fair share of fiberglass work. [img]smile.gif[/img]
