  • When Building a Sub Box, do i need to...

Do I need to calculate the displacement of the subwoofer when creating the size of the subwoofer box. I have an Alpine type R 10" and says sealed volume .5-.8 cubic feet. So does that mean that they already calculated the displacement and recomend building a sub box that size without the sub.. or do i need to add the displacenmt of the sub which is .2 cubic feet?

Im shooting for a .65 cubic foot box. So should i make it .85 or .65?

    Thank you, Scott

.85 Their recommendation is without sub displacement.

Best size for a 10" sub is 18(L)x15(W)x15(H) with a port hole 2"wide. The port hole needs a tube roughly 8"long in it.

the ported will sound louder but not as clear as a sealed, you know that right? plus if you are building a custom box find out if it gives you anything for a ported box before just using a general box design. just my opinion, take it or leave it.

I agree with T-Punk, not really a fan of ported boxes. My JLs sounded like 10x better with the box sealed rather than ported..

It's all in the build. I've seen people using ported subboxs win SQ comps all the same. It's nothing new. If you're doing it yourself, a box designing program is going to be a must. Good ones aren't cheap. But head over to www.linearteam.org and pickup WinISD Pro. Decent program....and it's free!
