  • Wire causes rattling in my speaker

I thought that my speaker had blown, being that I dont know much about audio. I have a custom setup that is pretty good, and until lately it has worked fine. Now one of the speakers 6.5 in rattles really loud when I crank up the volume. The only one that does it. I noticed that the little wire that is glued on to the main part of the speaker and connects to the small tweeter(or whatever) is not as tight as the others. It seems to help when I push on it when the music is playing. Is There anything to fix this problem? I dont really want to spend any money on the system, as it sounded fine before.

solder it back on there, its prolly just loose.

If you think its broken push it down while the radio is off...if it makes a scratching noise its blown.

I had a speaker lead do that once. The braided lead for the tweeter and midrange (on a 3-way speaker) was slamming into the woofer cone during high excursions. I tried to tie a rubber band to it to pull it away from the cone but it didn't hold up very long. After comparing it to the other three speakers, I noticed that the tweeter/midrange was rotated around more than the others. The glue had loosened so I repaired it with some epoxy and lined it up like the other speakers and the problem went away.

I hope you can follow what I just said. Good luck.
