  • Cost expectations???

I'd like to get my car a decent car alarm, nothing fancy or pricey but mostly for the keyless entry. My car didn't come with power door locks, so I don't know how much that would factor into the cost.

I'd just like to see how much to expect to pay so I won't get taken by a shop that says "$500". Thanks!

I didnt have power locks either, so I bought actuators off of ebay for $25 brand new, then bought a cheap alarm (mainly for keyless entry) for $50. If you dont want the alarm and just keyless entry you could buy the control module for like $20. So I did this myself for under $100 and Im really happy with it.

Key words in the last post. "I did it myself"...

If you're having a shop do this, expect to pay no less than $300 and actually expect closer to $500. They will not use "ebay auction" parts so you will have to pay retail for the parts. Removal of door panels and installation of the lock motors will cost a considerable amount as well as a reliable alarm. $300 - $500 is not unreasonable to expect to pay.

I got my Viper installed for $475 at my local alarm shop. Make sure you go to good store because the install determines the usefullness of the alarm.
