  • Am I getting scamed?

I'm looking to upgrade my stereo system (along with everything else in my car). Right now i'm getting an new HU,amp and 2 subs, componets are coming when i get the money.
My Question was the guy at my local audio store said i would need to rewire the speakers when i get the new deck cuz the new deck run on 4 ohm and that its a multi speaker system.
Now this sounded odd to me, i'm not real great with anything electrical so i can't be 100% sure. They wanted to charge me an extra hour of labour to do the rewireing.
Is this right!?! Does it need special wiring? I talked to a couple diff people and got mixed answers, can u guys give me some light?

you don't have to rewire ****. its just wire. wires dont' carry the impedance. the speakers carry the impedance.

now, if you were going to just put in speakers with the bose system cd player, then you would have a problem.

best bet is to do everything at once.

if your going to be leaving the stock speakers in there then leave it as is.

If your going to be using after market speakers or components then might as well take the time to get it rewired with something like 14 gauge or so speaker wire.

And it will take an hour to do. Going through those little tubes on the doors is a ***** and a half.

If you're not touching the stock speakers...then obviously there is no need to "re-wire" anything. Not sure if he's actually trying to scam you, or just is getting confused about the Monsoon/Bose systems. An aftermarket headunit is a plug and play with or without the upgraded soundsystems. Don't pay him anything. Just for that, buy the gear and then take it home and do it yourself. I'm very confident I could install a new headunit in any 4th gen in under 30mins. And you can to. It's VERY easy. The subamp is a little tougher but by no means difficult. Just ask around this board. Everybody does their own work. We can walk you through it step by step if need be. Don't pay some bozo that isin't sure of what he's doing to try to install your stuff.

I'm in total agreement with these guys. It sounds to me like he's trying to rip you off. Some of it can be difficult, but most of it is surprisingly easy. And besides, some teenage punk at a stereo shop isn't going to be as careful about stuff as you would be, because it's your car.

If you're unsure about any of the install details, go to fbodyaudio.com. Those guys can tell you basically anything you need to know about an install.
