sub question

ive asked a few questions about this before but got busy and never really got around to gettin another amp...
i have 2 ma audio 1200xl subs.. they are dual voice coils 600 rms.... are these subs gonna be able to take 600 rms each.. i remember some people sayin ma audio wasnt real great stuff... so i just thought i'd ask to make sure they could take that much without hurtin them before i bought a amp that put that much out....

another question... what are some good amps that put out 500-600 watts rms x2? i think hifonics was mentioned last time but i have no idea what series or model it was.. i;m lookin for one that isnt real expensive and is at 2 or 4 ohms preferably... thanks

I have heard mixed reviews of MA Audio. Using the old noggin, I see that they claim a lot and don't cost very much.... know what I mean? ;)

As far as amps go, Audiobahn and Hifonics are probably the two leaders in cheap but actually output rated power for amps. But before anyone can recommend a specific amp, we need to know what impedance the voice coils on your subwoofers are. Dual 2 ohm? Dual 4 ohm? And the ability of your subwoofers to handle the full 600WRMS will be dependant on the box they are in. Sealed? Vented? If vented, what tune? Either design, what net air space?

i dont really get it.. i had my wisdom teeth cut out today so nuthin is makin alot a sense..

anyway my subs are dual 4 ohm voice coils and they are in a sealed box... i dont know exactly how big the box is... around 2 cubic feet

If an amp claims 4,000W RMS, but only costs $150..... what do you think? ;) Well you didn't give me a price range but judging from the other gear you have I'll recommend the Hifonics BX1205D. 2cuft sealed box for two 12"s, this amp should be good. [img]smile.gif[/img]

so i just take one wire and go from + to + on one sub then another wire off the top + and twist it together with the wire off the other sub.. then twist in another that goes to the amp... or are their connectors for this?

i just wanna make sure i get all this figured out and make sure i can do it on my own before i buy this amp.... and that hifonics amp is stable at 1 ohm? so i shouldnt have any problems running it that low a ohm all the time? thanks

Couple of links to prove the 1 ohm stability. Yes, you'll be fine with a 1 ohm load. I'd worry about the quality of your subwoofers before the amp. Might wanna start with the gain set on the conservative side. [img]smile.gif[/img]

Wire them just as the picture shows. All 4 +'s together and all 4 -'s together. You don't have to have the two subwoofers connect together on a single seperate piece of wire like the pic shows. Don't take it THAT seriously. Just as long as all +'s to the + on amp and same for -'s...and you're good to go.

A bad way. As I'm sure you saw on my other post, MA Audio isin't the best quality stuff. Not junk, but a lot of talk.

And your subs don't care what load they are running at. They don't see it any differently other then the increased power out of the amp. Here's how it works. The subs put a given load on the amp. The amp outputs the most power it can into the load. The subs hopefully take it. 1 ohm. 2 ohms. 10 ohms. 100 ohms. 1200W RMS is still 1200W RMS no matter the load it takes to achieve it. I say hopefully because your subs are rated at 600WRMS each and the amp does 1200WRMSx1@1ohm.....and like I said.... I dunno about MA Audio. Don't think I'd be pushing them like that. So in answer to your question, the subs don't care what load they run at. That's the amp's job. The question is, can the subwoofers handle the power from the amp. Refer to what I said above.

EDIT: Oh and if that wasn't confusing enough already... just noticed that particular amp has TWO pairs of connections on the output. To answer your soon to be question, YES! THIS IS STILL A SINGLE CHANNEL AMP! You can wire your subwoofers like in the JL Audio link and only use one of the output connections. Yes, you will get full power out. The two connections are there to try and simplify subwoofer wiring. The connections are connected in parallel internal to the amp. So it's still actually one single channel. So if it helps any, you can take one subwoofer. Connect it's +'s together. Run one wire from one positive to a positive output on the amp. Do the same for the negatives. Take your second subwoofer and do the same thing except use the other pair of output connections at the amp. End result? Subwoofers are wired in parallel for a 2 ohm load each. Then the amp's connections are wired in parallel internal for a final load of 1 ohm. Al lin all. It's the same thing. Hifonics just trying to make it easier for you....doesn't really. Yes, you can use this amp. Or else I wouldn't have recommended it. What box do you plan on putting these in? And what CD player do you have now?

i was gonna leave them in the same sealed box i have.. around 2 - 2.5 cub ft.... uhh a sony xplode headunit.. its always been good... there headunits are one of the only things i get along with...
but can i ask why u wanted to know about the box and cd player... just curious? lol
