does anyone understand ohms

i am getting a jl12w3v2-d4 which has 4 ohms. i was going to get two of those. can i hook up a jl 500/1 amp which has a "Rated Power:
500 W RMS @ 1.5 ohm-4 ohm ". can i hook up the two subs to this amp or will it not work?

Depends on how you wire it up, but yes it will work. If you wire the subs series/parallel, you will end up with a final 4ohm impedence.

I'm not sure if that amp is 1ohm stable, but it is possible to obtain a 1ohm final impedence as well with parallel/parallel wiring.

megabass.. it dosent matter with jl amps.. they do this impeadince matching BS that sucks.. you can wire it however you want and they put out the same amout of power.. so.. if i was you I would just wire it up to 8ohms..

Anyway, as said, yes, you'll be fine. Are those woofs dual voice coil? If so, each voice coil will be 4 ohm. Now here are your options:

1 ohm (parallel/parallel/parallel)
4 ohm (parallel/parallel/series)
4 ohm (parallel/series/series)
16 ohm (series/series/series)

You will get the best response by using the most amount of parallel connections possible.

I know it doesn't matter with the JL amp, but wasn't sure if they are stable clear down to 1ohm. And as youngcamarokid shows, you can't get an 8ohm total impedence from two of those subs. One last thing. It's okay to wire series/parallel, but I've heard it's not recommended at all to wire two subs coils parallel and then link them in series.

If it were me, I would just run them at 4ohms.
