  • Keyless Entry Range (Help!)

    Hey everyone-

Ever since I bought my Firebird, my keyless entry remotes have extremely horrible range. It seems I have to be almost right next to the vehicle to unlock it, with no obstructions in the way.

My mom's Jeep remote works entire parking lots away if you sound the alarm, and it ticks me off that my car costs more than hers and her remote works better.

I replaced the batteries in one with what I thought was the right battery, but it's still not working far away...like I said, I have to be almost RIGHT next to it, within 5 feet max.

    Any help would be appreciated...

hehe 500ft + for me :D ..... most aftremarket ones have an antenna....for better range, and really what do you care it it only works from 5 ft away, its just the time that you press your button....if you had remote start or remote window roll down, (like me) I could see your dillema, but with the stocker...who cares, mine did the same, maybee 10 ft or something...

I was just wondering if anyone else has horrible range with their stock keyless entry...my alarm (factory) also chooses to go off when it pleases (obviously when someone's bumping it or something, but still not much)

Try taking the transmitter apart and cleaning the under-sides of the buttons and contact surface of the circuit board with a pencil eraser. I have to do that about twice a year to maintain my keyless' range of a whopping 50'.

If that doesn't do it, try replacing the battery.
