  • Which Speakers?

    Hi,

Not having the money for the system I was planning on getting, I'd like to buy a better set of speakers for my doors. I have stock speakers/set up now. My door speakers rattle with any sort of bass. My plan is to put $50-60 into a set of speakers for the doors for a while until I can buy the set up I'd really like. Does anyone have any input as to which set would be the best? i'm just looking for a set that will sound good.

Any brands that are particulalry better sounding? I completely understand that I'm not getting the best speaker out there, I just want something that sounds better than the POS i have in there now. I've heard CDT makes great stuff how are these speakers?

Again, I know that $50 isnt much, but I just want to replace the crud I have for the time being.

    any help is appreciated.

    Tobes

I'm actually running a pair of Sony Xplod 6.5's in my doors, and they sound pretty good. They're definitely not the best, but for 50-60 bucks, they're worth it.

I doubt you'll find a better set for your money....go CDT. On a side note, you have the Monsoon system?

For low budget, I'd look into JBL. JBL has been around a LONG time and they know speakers. I've always used JBL/Infinity products and I couldn't be happier with them. Actually, I tried Sony once and I'll never use them again. I'm not big into the companies that make a little bit of everything. That usually means they're not focusing on making one product well. They're making a bunch of products OK to increase profit.

I've been running some Infinity Kappa 3-way door speakers for about 7 years now and they still sound fantastic. However, they were $150/pr when I bought them. Look at it this way, make a good investment up front and it will pay off in the long run. $150/7years = $21.40 per year. Not too bad if you look at it like that.

I use those as my rear fill speakers (which CDT promotes them as). I'll adjust the fade later and give JUST them a listen and i'll let you know what I think about them.

Sounds great, let me know how that goes! I am planning on using these speakers as rear filler when I have the money for the set up I would like to use. I've heard a lot of negative about Sony xplods.. but I have never heard anything negative about CDTs.

(btw, I just have stock ac-delco)

okay, just got back from lunch. They are definitely a really good speaker for $45.00. If you were running an after market amp, i would suggest crystal comps (cpe's i think) for like $68.00 on ebay. But straight from the HU, definitely recommend the CDT.

Excellent, thank you for checking for me. I figured they'd be a good buy.

I plan on running CDT CL-61's in the front along with a 10" sub (im not looking for lots of bump) amp that I havent picked out yet and a good HU which I have some ideas with. Alas, my money has other destinations for awhile.

Thanks again for the info, I'll order that set.

Personally, I would leave the door speakers alone until you have the cash to do it once and have it the way you want it. But if you're dead set on doing it, I would recommend the Alpine 6.5" Type S two-ways. I have those in the backseat area for rear fill. They play clear and believe me, they play loud. Excellent speakers for the money.

yeah, i've heard the type "S" two-ways are pretty good too. If you're dead set on running CDT fronts eventually, you may want to keep it in the family. Nothing against the type "S" though.
