  • New idea for 10's in the cab

Ok i just got done opening my doors up to look for a spot to fit some tens withour messing up my window. I saw that in the back of the door there is a huge 7-8" opening. Now i figure if i make some completely custom door pannels out of fiberglass. This way i could aim the kicks in the door better and fit the ten (im planning on two illusion audio 10's one in each door) in there with a sealed box. what do you guys think. is it probable that i can fit it if i use the door pannel as the enclosure with some extra depth through the hole in the rear that i talked about.

Ask others about this, but I've seen a camaro with a 10" woofer in the dash too. I have no clue how the person did it, and this was like 2 years ago, but it was done. Just throwing out more possibilities.

yeah i think i saw that somewhere as well. the other thing im trying to do though is not draw to much attention to my car from the outside. i have already had a system stolen before so im trying to keep it all secure and somewhat hidden.

        lower your window ;)

.. you will see why you can't mount it there.

a normal stealth box, will give you as much bass as you want. (just get a 10W7 if you need that much bass, hidden)

no there is room. i did lower my window. im not talking about using the inside of the door for the box just the outer plastic work. as for the stealth box... that a total no go. when i put my top down (i have a vert) the bass goes bye bye (it seals the trunk off really well with metal and cloth so no sound get through). i had a kappa perfect in the trunk before and it didnt even give enough bass. The subs im talking about only have a 3" mounting depth so i dont see a problem. im just thinking of extending into the areal at the back of the door about 1.5 to maybe 2 inches to get a little extra air space. the other thing about the stealth boxes is they dont fit in verts because the cubby is used for the air pump that raises and lowers the top. as ive said before audio systems only get harder with verts.

sorry, didn't know you have a vert.

once you make provisions for the door panel to go on, it won't be easy to make it work.

what kind of subs have a 3" depth?

even the crappy jensen subs i used to sell were about 6"

these are really cool man and they are SQ sugs too. here's the site http://www.illusionaudio.com/illusion/Homex.html click the technology section and it gives all the info. yeah i couldnt believe that a good SQ sub could have depth that shallow either. larryfirebird introduced them to me about a week ago. the way they accomplish the profile is by inverting the magnet motor structure to go through the other side, with the magnet inside the cone. its pretty cool. go check it out.

and yeah i would have to agree that getting the door to go on right will be a pain. they are bad enough stock. i hate taking those things off, i always forget about one of the screws it never fails. im thinkin about getting some extra panels and using those and customizing them so i know that they will go on. Do you guys think this is the best plan of action? also slow, have you put the vortech on yet. those are suppose to be awsome kits.

im not looking for huge sound just to add some decent bass. the two tens are perfect for me. as for 15's... i hate them anyway. and everything i have read tells me that they are very clean but must be kept away from contact with people due to being delicate.

I realize you aren't looking at the 15" version, but the spec are pretty much the same for all sizes. 38mm Xmax is damn hard to believe. They must be measuring using a different form. We need a DUMAX report. Makes we think twice about the rest of the specs. Not trying to knock them, but I've seen it before....

311's right... that's hard to swallow. Even an Adire Brahma only sweeps out 2.8cm, and their excursions are ridiculous.

On the other hand, it's so rare to see someone actually need a front-loaded motor, you're probably making the right decision. Be sure to post up some pics. It will definitely be an original install.

i agree that they probably dont have that kind of xmax, but thats really not why i want them anyway. I really just want them for the reason user1101 said, they will fit. im just wanting some SQ in the doors and from what ive heard this is the best bet. im guessing this will take me some time to fab out all the way but when im done ill post LOTS of pics.
