  • What happened?

The spearker wire to my subwoofer came loose while the car was running and the amp was under load. Now, the amp is dead. Just wondering why this would happen and if there is a quick fix or if I should just get a new amp.

Did the loose speaker wire make contact with the other speaker wire? Having one wire come loose and laying free wouldn't hurt anything. However, if the loose wire touched the other speaker wire for any length of time then it created a short. I know some amps, like ones used for home audio, will go into some sort of protection mode if both - and + speaker wires are touched together. Your amp "may" have possibly burned up. Lets hope I'm wrong.

Only thing I could suggest doing is double checking all of the amps fuses (on amp and power wire) and also check the ground and remote turn on lead wire. You also may want to hook up another speaker to the amp to see what happens. Good luck

Get a voltmeter and see if you have current goin into the amp (+/- power terminals) and coming out of the amp (+/- speaker terminals). Make sure that you disconnect the speaker wire before the second test. Nda has some other good advice (try another speaker, fuses, remote wire). Do you get any power led's when power is sent to the amp?
