  • System Works great. got some questions though.

i got the rockford fosgate amp. 1800 watts.

it will be pushing 2 10inch infinity type r subs.

will i need a powercap to run this amp?

some say i would need it.. some say i wouldnt need it.

is 1800 watts too much power for no cap? help please.. im installing it tomorrow morning

bah.. no cap.. they are wothless IMO..

skip the cap go strait to a battery.. if that doesent do it.. get an alternator..

1800 is alot of wattage.. if you use it all a cap wont help for squat.. it really all depends on how high you set your gains..

well i dont know jack **** for systems.

i just went out and decided i need a little KICK in my music.

so i purchased that 1800 watt fosgate amp and those infinity type r's.

the people at the store said i'll be blowing out windoes with that setup.

if i keep the gains at factory settings i'll be fine with no cap?

You're definitely going to need SOMETHING with that setup. Right now I'm running 1600 watts with a Kenwood Excelon, and my 1 farad cap isn't doing jack. I'm going to try and go to something bigger, which should do the trick. My suggestion, if you do go with a cap, is to get something bigger than a 1 farad. Other than that, another battery or bigger alternator would be your only option, but I think that a cap will run you less.

Well, you're not going to blow out any windows. But you might be blowing those subs pretty easily. 1800 watts is a little much for those subs (especially infinities) so you'll need to keep the gain turned waaay down.

I wouldn't say caps are worthless. I strongly believe in them and I don't care what anyone says. But you still might need a battery upgrade or high output alt. I would suggest to start with a cap. It's the least expensive thing to try. And like what was mentioned, you should go for 2 or 3 farad cap. After that, I would look into getting an Optima battery. I have one and it works really well. Good luck

1)Infinity's suck they are all SQ so you wont be breaking anything.
              2) Infinity doesn't make type R's alpine does.

yeah, i am not saying caps are compleatly useless.. but up agenst a 1800 watt amp they are.. For smaller applications they work great..

I agree.. bes thing to start with would be an optima yellow top.. see how that goes, and then an alternator..

that or get a smaller amp.. i am sure a 500-800 watt amp will work jsut as well for those speakers..

see.. i dont kno ****. i honestly dont think i'll be blowing those speakers. they got a 1000 watt max output. AND i got a 2 year warrenty on them. if i blow them, i get new ones free

i got everything installed, subs, amp, wireing. EXCEPT THE REM WIRE...

do i have to have this REM wire in order for it al to work.. right now its not even powering up.

i have a good ground, and the fuse is good.

what does the REM wire do? and will it fix the problem of this NOT working?

please help?!!??! im not about to pay an arm and a leg to get this to work.

The REM wire is the Remot Turn-on wire for the amp. Basically this wire needs to see a 12v signal and that's what tells you amp to turn on. Not sure if your using the stock deck, but aftermarket decks have a wire that you connect the REM wire to. So that when you turn on the deck, the amps will turn on.

I wired an in-line switch in my remote wire so I can turn the amp off independently of the other speakers in the car. But that's why you're not powering up. I think the pac adapter has a remote lead (not sure).

                        whats a PAC adapter?

the INLINE switch seems to be a pretty smart idea.

i may look into doing that

i put my remote wire into the fuse box on the side of the dash. pick a 12v source. i think the radio fuse is 12v so choose that. you HAVE to have that hooked into something or it won't power up.

I would definitely recommend AGAINST running your remote wire to the fuse box. I've done that in previous cars, and not only did I start blwing fuses left and right, the wire itself also caught on fire.

If you have an aftermarket headunit, you should have a remote wire coming off the harness. If you happen to have the Bose or the Monsoon system, you should also have a remote wire coming off the factory harness as well (at least my Bose system did). If you dont happen to have any of these, its always possible to run a jumper wire from the power input on your amp to the remote input, but that would mean the amp would always be on. If you did that, you'd have to run a toggle switch somewhere along your power wire so you could shut the amp off.

But like I said, this all depends on what kind od deck you have. No matter what, though, you have to have that remote wire hooked up.

ok, i have a sony explode head unit.

all i know is that the black wire is labeled as the ground. all the other wires arent labeled..and there are about 8 other wires. how will i know which wire to use, so that it turns on and off with the radio?
