  • Which sub?

    Should I go with one Solo baric L5 12'' in a ported box or two pioneer 12's in a sealed box? Both will have 600 watts to them. I am looking for the most spl. Thanks.

    Tough call, but I would advise against any pioneer sub. Someone posted that a single L7 (similar to L5) ported is louder than two of the same subs in a sealed box. If that is true, then I would say the kicker would be louder than those pioneer subs IMO.

    I have a guy running a single 12" L7 sealed and he says it pretty darn loud. Here's what it looks like

      I'd bet that the L5 would probably be louder if you had the right box for it. Megabass makes some good stuff. [img]graemlins/thumbsup.gif[/img]

        OK thanks guys, IS their any difference between the L5's and L7's besides the power they can take? Like L7 = more SPL or what? I will probaly end up doing the L5 in a Ported box of 2 cubes, with 600 watts rms going to it. What do you think?

          Yeah, I think power handling is the main difference. The L7 is a little beefier. If you have a chance, I would get the L7 over the L5 though. I've seen 12" L7s for under $200. Let me know if you need a box like that. It's already 2.0 cubes and I can easily port it no problem. It'll hammer for sure.

            $200 new for an L7? Does port have to be tuned or anything?

              When the time is right for my system I will have you built my box. I already talked to you a couple of times about it. FireFighter8615@aol.com remember? Yea I love that single L7 setup but, it would be louder ported.

                  One 12 ported will be waaaay louder than two 10s sealed.

                    If the 2 10's are going to be sealed then I would say go with one 12 ported. First, one 12 will be cheaper then 2 10's... and second you don't have to power 2 speakers. You could just put all the power on one 12. You will also have much better low end with a 12 ported vs. 2 10's sealed. It's no contest between the two.

                      Well I think I will go with 2 10'' alpine type R's in a ported box with 300 rms watts going to each. How does that sound?

                          Hard to say, but your box size needs to be larger in order to be ported. What kind of watts can you get in bridged mode on that amp?

                            2 10'' Alpine type R's in a 2 cu ft ported box (1 cube per side) with 300 watts each. the amp bridged puts out 600 at 2 ohms.

                            My other option 2 12'' Alpine type R's is a sealed box with the same amp.

                            I want the most spl like I said before.

                              I don't think that is enough room to port those subs. Is that 1 cube before woofer and port displacment? I so, then it is definatly not happening. 2 12" sealed in 1 cube each would be much better in that case.
