PC speakers are powered with an extra AC adpater, and they only get the signal from the PCs sound card. Car speakers need to be powered by the source. A PC is not going to be sufficient enough for loud/quality sound

Yea, you'd need extra amps. I have that already so no big deal. But I'm planning on running my computer audio through my head unit. Just for ease of use, unless I can setup an easy volume adjustment on the touch screen, I think it would be a lot easier to turn the knob on my HU to control the volume. Plus in the rare event I listen to the radio, I couldn't if I just used the computer.
Another thing people don't think about is sound quality. Unless I spend a lot of money on getting a good sound card, or taking my SB Extigy (THD 0.006 %, beats the hell out of my HUs .08% :D ) and using that instead, I would get a lot of distortion, most generic sound cards have **** for sound quality.
The benefits of getting a high quality sound card and running them directly to the amp, is you could have true 5 speaker surround sound (FL, FR, RL, RR, subwoofer) :D
