Anyone one know of good ... er ... "cheap" replacement speakers for the monsoon mid and rear speakers? Mine popped a while ago and I just never replaced them.
I don't want to do anything more than direct replacement, but I don't want to replace them with GM!
There are some decents alpine 2 ohm speakers. Ill see if i can dig up a link for you.

you should check the threads at the top of the electronics/stereo forum on ls1.com. i dont know a cheap replacement for the mids -- its difficult to find a dvc 4ohm 6.5 subwoofer (its run in parallel so it looks like 2ohm). the only thing that might work well is the CX62 by image dynamics -- no one has tried this as far as i know.
i did replace the rears with some 4" infinity kappa components. those are just standard 4ohm drivers back there. leave the old tweeter in place but unconnected just to fill the 'extra' hole.
I'm pretty sure you can just wire 4 ohm speakers in there... They will run at a lower impedence but that doesnt matter because your running off the stock amp, should actually be better then stock

anyway, the stock sail panels are dual voice coil. each coil is 4ohm but they are wired in parallel and present a 2ohm load to the monsoon amp. if you use a 4ohm svc speaker you will get half the power from the monsoon amp. the monsoon is 500w peak, so about 160rms i figure. probably something like 35w rms into the 2ohm loads. so if you switch to a 4ohm load, that's 17w rms. its difficult to find a 6.5 mid-bass/mid-range that will sound good at that power level.

I am also looking for replacement speakers. I want something relatively inexpensive but i also want quality. A direct replacement would be great, so the only thing i would have to do is disconnect the old speakers and hook up the new ones. The Monsoon system is pretty decent from the factory, and there really isn't anything wrong with my system, but i want a little more.
I guess what i am looking for is better sound when i turn the volume up. Will better speakers solve this?
