  • Alarm install for dummies [good link inside]

Okay, I've decided to edit this first post. Although it took me nearly all day working alone, I've finished my alarm system install....

    and it works!

I highly recommend the link that nda has listed below. Although I didn't do everything exactly the way he did, it is a really good, step by step, illustrated version of how to do this.

The only significant change I made in my install is I took my +12v constant and switched power sources off of the BCM's [body control module] smaller plug [not the big blue one] instead of using the fuse panel near the driver's door. Why? I had nowhere to plug in a soldering iron outside my apt to make the connections, but I had plenty of quick splice connectors [those are a godsend- makes the job much easier].

I have only one thing left to figure out-- the alarm I bought seems to have only one small four-pin plug in the brain. Both my shock sensor and my motion sensor use four pin plugs, so I am assuming I have to decide which one to use. There are other connections to the brain for the valet switch, led, and one empty three pronged something.

Since I want to use the motion sensor, I need help setting it up. Right now, I have the wires running to the center console area. I don't know how to calibrate it correctly, or at what angle to mount it.

Can a normal person do this with no experience? Yes. But, it'll take you many, many hours. You need to be patient, have more supplies/tools than you actually need available, and be sorta creative. This job was much harder, scarier, and time consuming than anything I've done with a stereo system.

Thanks again for your help nda and others.

Pin Switch Wire (One wire will take care of all 3 entry points, both front doors and the rear hatch):
On the large (32 pin) connector coming out of the BCM, look for a WHITE wire. Splice the "Negative (-)" Door Trigger Input wire from the Crimestopper Alarm to that WHITE wire. Saftey Note: Make sure to use the "Negative (-)" door trigger input on the Alarm.

Don't even use those other door trigger wires you mentioned.

If you want to use one of the accessory buttons on your Alarm's remote to open the hatch, the Alarm more than likely uses a "Negative (-)" pulse output trigger for this. The Hatch Release wire in the car will need a "Positive (+)" pulse to activate it; therefore, you'll need to convert/change the Alarms (-) output to a (+), which can be done with the use of a Relay. Here's a website that explains in detail how to do this....
    Hatch Release connection

again, before you hook up any wires, make sure the Polarity of the Alarm wiring matches the Polarity of the wiring you'll be splicing into.

I would mount the alarm somewhere up under the dash and not in the kick panel. Use zip ties to hold it in place. As far as the shock sensor goes, most people usually mount it directly to the steering column. (way underneath).

ttt because I edited the first post into an entirely new one, and still had an unanswered question or two.

What motion sensor did you get? Was it this one.... Motion Sensor

For the Shock Sensor, just use the small 4-pin plug on the Alarm. For the Motion Sensor (assuming you have the one listed above) you'll have to cut the plug off and wire it direct. Look on your Alarm's wiring diagram and see if the Alarm's brain has something called a "Prewarning Signal Input." If it does, hook up the GREEN (exterior trigger) wire from the Motion Sensor to that. Hook up the BLUE (interior trigger) on the Motion Sensor to any "Negative (-) INPUT Trigger" on the Alarm. For the remaining two wires on the Motion Sensor (Red and Black), Ground(-) the BLACK wire and supply Positive(+) to the RED. Let me know if your alarm doesn't have a "prewarning signal input."
