hey, i am a complete newbie to this forum, i dont understand stereos all too well, all the terms as far as subwoofer, amplifier, tweeter and so on confuse me abit. I have a slight idea as to what they are but dont fully understand. I have the monsoon in the Firebird that I just bought and this is my first Firebird so i dont know much about it. I was wondering how the stock speakers, amps, and so on stack up against the aftermarket models. IF they fall short to the aftermarkets, what would be the first and best thing to upgrade in the system? Thanks, sorry if I sound ignorant asking questions that probably seem dumb to you guys.

Not at all. Welcome to the forum! We're all here to learn and we were all new to the game at some point in our lives.
The stock Monsoon system is pretty decent when compared to some of the other stock systems around however, it is easily CRUSHED by a lot of aftermarket gear out there. Also, I honestly cannot count how many posts I've seen by people with blown sail panel speakers. (Speaker by rear seat) These are the "subwoofers" in the Monsoon system and they are always popping.
As for basic terminology, check out this page. Try clicking on the questions to the right of the alphabet. Might be a little more clear. Also, don't forget to read the FAQ thread at the top of this forum. Be sure to include this part in your read. Tons of Fbody specific info.
As for what you should start upgrading first.... I guess it depends on what your final goal is. Are you looking for a new headunit (CD player) that plays MP3's and WMAs? Along with a nice pair of front speakers maybe powered off an amp? Maybe throw in a pair of 12" subwoofers for a little bump? Or maybe you just want to throw in 300 bucks to upgrade and never add anything else? Piece at a time or a single one time piece. It's up to you and your budget.
